What is communication?
• Communication is the process of exchanging
information.
• People communicate to convey their thoughts,
ideas, and feelings to other. The process of
communication is inherent to all human life and
includes verbal, nonverbal, print, and electronic
processes.
What is electronic communication?
• Electronic communication consist of three basic
components, a transmitter, a communication
channel (medium), and a receiver. Messages are
converted to electrical signals and sent over
electrical or fiber-optic cable or free space to a
receiver.

• Attenuation (weakening) and noise can interfere
with transmission.
Advantages of Electronic
Communication
•  Speedy transmission:  It requires only few 
seconds to communicate through electronic 
media because it supports quick transmission.
•  Wide coverage: World has become a global 
village and communication around the globe 
requires a second only.

• Low cost: Electronic communication saves 
time and money. For example Text sms is 
cheaper than traditional letter.
• Exchange of feedback: Electronic 
communication allows instant exchange of 
feedback. So communication becomes 
perfect using electronic media.

• Managing global operation: 
Due to advancement of electronic 
communication, business managers can easily 
control operation across the globe. Video or 
teleconferencing e-mail and mobile 
communication are helping managers in this 
regard.

• Blogs
• Text Messaging
• Chatting, etc.
Electronic mail (E-mail)
• Electronic mail is a method of exchanging digital
messages from a sender to one or more
receivers.
• Modern email operates across the internet or
other computer networks.

• Some early email systems required that the
sender and the receiver both be online at the
same time, in common with instant messaging.
• Today's email systems are based on a store-and-
forward model.
Podcasting
• A podcasting is a digital medium that consists of
an episodic series of audio, digital radio, PDF,
or ePub files made available on the Internet for
downloading to a computer or portable media
player, typically available as a series, new
installments of which can be received by
subscribers automatically.
Discussion Boards
• Discussion Boards is an online discussion site
where people can hold conversations in the form
of posted messages.
Blogs
• Blog is a web-based journal.
• A blog is a discussion or informational site
published on the World Wide Web and
consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically
displayed in reverse chronological order (the
most recent post appears first).
Text Messaging
• Text messaging, or texting, is the act of
composing and sending brief, electronic
messages between two or more mobile phones,
or fixed or portable devices over a phone
network. The term originally referred to
messages sent using the Short Message
Service (SMS).
Chatting
• Exchange messages online with one or more real
time users of a computer network.
