The manufacture of ethyl alcohol ( or ethanol CH3−CH2−OH) from molasses:

1) Dilute molasses with water.


2) Add sulphuric acid for acidification
3) Add yeast to the solution and close the container.
4) Maintain temperature at 308 K. In one week, fermentation takes place.
5) About 6% to 10% alcohol is present in the fermented matter called 'wort'.
6) Obtain 95% alcohol by fractional distillation.
