PATENT – BUILDING MATERIALS

Introduction
A patent is granted as an exclusive right by the Government for an invention of building material e.g
(Vineertex, Marblex, Fixopan) for a limited period of time in consideration of disclosure of the
invention by an applicant. A patentee (Individual or company ) enjoys exclusive right to prevent the
third party from unauthorized act of making, using, offering for sale, selling or importing the
patented product (Construction Materials) or process within the country during the term of the patent.
A patented invention becomes free for public use after expiry of the term of the patent or when the
patent ceases to have effect, by non-payment of any renewal fee.

Patents
Solving problems in the architecture and construction industries can often lead to innovative
solutions. Those innovative products and processes may be patentable. So that her/his innovation
can’t be used by others free of cost. When you solve a unique problem you may immediately question
whether you have invented something that can be patented.
If what you have invented appears to be patentable, you claim ownership of those innovations
by preparing and filing patent applications. When the patents issue, they provide the owner the ability
to prevent others from making, using, or selling the patented invention by granting the exclusive
rights to the invention to the patent owner. This can be especially important in technologies for which
the path to market is long and expensive. The innovator has a tough path to market and, without patent
protection securing the rights when the innovation finally starts to pay off, there may not be adequate
incentive to bring the innovation to market at all. If a copycat can quickly ride your coattails after
you prove there is a valuable market, you are putting yourself at a competitive disadvantage without
patent protection.
When used correctly, the patents provide exclusive rights in the innovation that help to
provide a competitive advantage in the marketplace. As discussed more below, that competitive
advantage can be used to help build the value in the trademarks that protect the business.

There are three types of Patents granted: -

1. Utility Patent - This is the most important type of Patent it is granted on the functional aspect of
the invention. This type of Patent is most sought after and requires a lot of skill in drafting of the

application and prosecuting it before a Patent Office. The functional utility of the invention is
protected.
2. Design Patent - This type of Patent is granted to the ornamental or external appearance of the
invention. If a design is of functional necessity then it cannot be registered for Design Patent. For e.g
the aerodynamic shape of a plane cannot be registered as design patent, as the shape is very important
for the smooth functioning of the invention itself.
3. Plant Patent - This type of Patent is granted for Plant variety made through asexual reproduction
of plant varieties.

Anchor Boards
An anchor-board construction system suitable for incorporation into the interior of buildings and
homes is disclosed for use as a cladding to replace conventional plaster based wall board similar to
that known in the trade as gyprock, having one surface thereof incorporating a layer of protruding
attachment hooks. These hooks can accept and retain decorative and functional surface finish units
embodying a looped or other suitably "piled" posterior surface portion, for attachment to the hooks.
For use, within a building as a wall system, the novel anchor boards are secured into postion as an
underlying wall layer, and a selected form of area finish embodying a complementary attachment
surface is secured thereto simply by pressing into place. The area finish can be carpet tiles, wallpaper
or fabric with looped backing or wood paneling. The system includes provision for trims, baseboards,
cornice moldings, door moldings and outlet covers together with electrical conduit and permits rapid
erection, replacement and change-over, with low associated labor costs. The system may further
include a double sided anchor board, having an attachment hook strata on the obverse face as above
described and an attachment loop strata on the reverse face, for use in cooperation with wall building
supporting members. The wall building supporting members, in turn, incorporate an obverse face
having a hook strata to which the anchor board is adheringly attached. Such a wall building supporting
member as an I-beam may carry a complete partition suspended therefrom, the I-beam having a hook
strata on each outer face, to receive a respective anchor board in secured relation therewith.

Portable partition wall system (Read Annexure – A)

(United States Patent 4635418)
Abstract:
A portable partition wall system which is lightweight, easy to maintain, requires no finishing trim,
and can be assembled and disassembled without any tools. Wall panels consisting of a velcro loop
fabric bonded to a polyester foam core are joined together by Velcro hook tape. The panel core has a
central groove along its edges into which the Velcro loop fabric is inserted and glued to prevent
premature separation of the fabric and core.
