Q2. Enumerate various types of renewable energy which help in making
energy-efficient buildings. Write in brief about them.

RENEWABLE ENERGY
The renewal energy is defined as the different types of energies that are obtained naturally
from the environment. These energies are quickly becoming inexpensive as well as efficient, and that
includes solar, biomass, wind, hydropower, geothermal, etc., and. Renewable energy is very
beneficial due to their partial negative ecological impact when contrasted to fossil fuels. A long time
ago this energy is not used much due to their cost. But some of the energy sources are smart financial
choices for hospitals, business, and homes. Particularly, solar energy is the best option for the house
owners who want to reduce their environmental track while conserving money.

TYPES OF RENEWABLE ENERY

 Solar Enery
 Wind Energy
 Biomass Energy
 Hydroelectrical Energy
 Geothermal Energy

Solar Electric PV
Solar panels are placed on the rooftop or windows of the building, or anywhere
where maximum solar energy is received throughout the year. The energy generated can be
used for cooking, heating, generating electricity, etc.
Solar heating systems can be installed in all types of buildings. Using solar power to
pre-heat outside air before it is allowed to enter a building can considerably reduce heating
costs both in residential buildings and commercial constructions. Solar heating systems are
especially efficient for large buildings such as hospitals, hangars, schools, and gyms, as well
as multi-story residential buildings.
Solar thermal hot water
Solar hot water systems use a collector to absorb and transfer heat from the sun to water,
which is stored in a tank until needed. These systems are categorized by the temperature at which
heat is most efficiently delivered and the collector type that is best suited for that delivered
temperature, including low-temperature (unglazed collectors), mid-temperature (flat-plate
collectors), and high-temperature (evacuated tube collectors).

Geothermal Heat Pump

Geothermal energy technology is used to bring warmer temperatures into your home without
using fossil fuels, just by tapping into a heat exchange deep below the surface of the earth.

If you’re looking to cool your home in the summer, for example, one of the uses of
geothermal energy technologies is to allow you in hot times to take heat from your house, send it
downpipes into the ground (where it naturally cools), and return it to your house (where it helps
bring down the temperature inside). The technology typically uses a liquid-like antifreeze as a carrier
of that heat, which is moved about in a closed-loop piping system. One of the other main uses of
geothermal energy is the same concept but in reverse in cold months.
Biomass system
Large quantities of organic waste are generated in residential complexes, restaurants, hotels,
hostels, industrial canteens, etc. This organic waste generated in buildings can be utilized using bio-
methanation technologies. The organic waste is converted into biogas which can then be used either
for producing heat or electr icity (by using it in an engine). While in case of industrial canteens and
restaurants, it is possible to use biogas for cooking applications, in case of large residential
complexes it may be more practical to use biogas for generating electricity, which in turn can be used
for the operation of common services like a corridor and outdoor lighting, water pumping, etc. The
application of bio-methanation technologies not only helps in producing onsite renewable energy,
but also helps in decentralized waste management, and therefore reduces the burden on city-level
waste management systems.

Wind Tower

Wind towers or wind catchers

are small towers installed on top of
buildings. Wind towers have different
shapes and structures. For centuries
wind towers have been used for
ventilation and cooling of buildings in
the hot and arid or humid areas. Wind
towers are still used in some areas of
Middle East and Egypt. By leading the
outside air into the building, wind
towers serve as a natural ventilation
system for workplaces and houses.
HYDROELECTRICAL ENERGY

The hydroelectric energy uses the flow of water to rotate turbines for generating electricity.
According to the US survey of geological, this renewable energy provides 20% of the energy in the
world energy requirement. There are some issues while using hydroelectric energy. This energy can
be generated from the dammed rivers; otherwise it can have a major effect on the soil as well as
wildlife, and also affects on fish communities that must journey through the river dams.
