Example 1:
We would like to use the VS to start/stop a generator. To perform this we must connect the VS
to the multifunctional relay. This relay can then drive the generator start/stop circuitry.
Below is an example of a wish list.

a. Close relay when load is greater than 2000 Watt for 12 seconds
b. Close relay when battery voltage drops below 11 V for 30 seconds
c. Relay remains closed for at least 15 minutes
d. Relay remains closed for at most 4 hours after last on-condition has become inactive
e. Open relay 1 hour after Bulk phase is finished
f. Open relay immediately when user switches generator off by hand

To perform this we first connect the VS to the multifunctional relay (how?).

a. On the A-page (Set VS ON) we set the 12 seconds and 2000 Watt (how?)
b. On the same page we set the 30 seconds and 11V (how?)
c. On the "VS options" page we specify 15 minutes to guarantee the minimum on time
(how?)
d. On the B-page (Set VS OFF) page we set the "No VS ON condition for" field to 4 hours
(which is 240 minutes) (how?)
e. On the same page set the "when bulk charge finished for" value to 60 minutes (how?)
f. We detect a manual stop of the generator by a failure of the mains. So on the B-page
(Set VS OFF) we set the "when no AC input for" value to 0 seconds (how?)
Important:
l Specifying a higher value than 0 will cause the VS to stay on when this condition
occurs within 15 minutes from switch on. See Do not switch VS off within certain
period.
l As long as any of the conditions on the A-page holds, it will overrule any conditions
on the B-page. In that case switching off the generator manually will not result in
opening the relay. This might result in a restart of the generator depending on the
external circuitry.

Example 2:
Suppose we have a wind generator or solar system in which the battery is charged by a wind
generator.

Wish list:
a. Start using mains power when battery voltage below 11V for 30 seconds.
b. Stop using mains power when battery voltage higher than 14V for 10 seconds

To perform this we first connect the VS to the AC input (how?).

a. On the A-page (Set VS ON) page we set the 30 seconds and 11V (how?)

b. On the B-page (Set VS OFF) page we set the 10 seconds and the 14V (how?)

Example 3:
Suppose we have a limited shore current of 6 Amps and we do not have a MultiPlus device so
we do not have the PowerAssist function. We do not want the circuit breaker to trip can we
solve this problem?

Wish list:
a. Start inverting immediately when mains power> 6Amps*230V
b. Stop inverting when mains power<5Amps*230V for 60 seconds

To perform this we first connect the VS to the AC input with the "use VS to ignore AC input"
option (how?). Now note that we would like to ignore AC when the load is higher than a certain
limit. Ignoring the AC input means setting the VS to off.
However we cannot set the VS off with a load higher than condition!
We solve this problem by inverting the VS usage on the Usage page (how?). Now, ignoring the
AC input means setting the VS to on!
The remaining part is quite simple:

a. On the A-page (Set VS ON) we set 0 seconds and a limit of 6*230=1380 Watt (how?)
b. On the B-page (Set VS OFF) we set 60 seconds and a limit of 5*230=1150 Watt (how?)

Example 4:
We would like to use the multifunctional relay as an alarm relay. The relay should be de-
energized on an Alarm condition.

Wish list:
a. De-energize multifunctional relay immediately when any of the LED alarms become
active
b. Energize the multifunctional relay when no pre-alarm is active for 10 seconds

To perform this we first connect the VS to the multifunctional relay (how?). Now note that we
would like de-energize the relay when any LED alarm is active. De-energizing the alarm relay
means setting the VS to off.
However we cannot set the VS off on a LED alarm!
We solve this problem by inverting the VS usage on the Usage page (how?). Now, de-
energizing the alarm relay means setting the VS to on!

a. On the B-page (Set VS OFF) we set 0 seconds for all LED alarms (how?)
b. On the A-page (Set VS ON) we set 10 seconds and pre-alarm for all LED alarms (how?)
