CASE STUDY

Mrs. Jones, a returning resident from the UK is in need of a competent person to move
some building materials from the front of her house to the rear. There is limited space
between the house and the fence. The space is approximately 4” wide running from
front to rear. The materials at the front are 3 bags of sand, 6 bags of cement, 10 lengths
of steel and building blocks.

NB- Mrs. Jones has all the tools and equipment in her shed to carry out the task.
All OH&S, Manual Handling and Lifting and Housekeeping techniques
procedures and duties are to be adhered to at all time according to regulation
and intervention standards.

1.Explain how you and your colleagues would carry out the task?

2. Based on the task, state the tools and equipment that you would select from Mrs.
Jones tool shed?

3. One of your colleagues while lifting a bag of cement suffered a back strain. What
should he have done to avoid this injury?
