2.

Compare PEFR value obtained from PFM and spirometry with respect of
gender and BMI. Infer your findings.

Male PFM Spirometry

Underweight
370.47 399.6

Normal 475.35 457.74

Overweight 476.45 426.45

Obese 510 556.35

Female PFM Spirometry

Underweight
274.7 292.25

Normal 357.9 345.38

Overweight 332.69 356.73

Obese 272.54 297.36

Based on the above findings, there are differences between PEFR values associated
with gender and BMI .

For male, people who are obese have higher PERF value in both PFM and spirometry
where as overweight categories show the same PERF value in PFM and
spirometry.Normal category showed a higher PEFR value in PFM and lower value in
spirometry. In contrast, the underweight categories showed opposite from normal
category.

For female, ones who are obese and overweight showed the opposite PEFR values in
PFM and spirometry.Normal person showed PEFR value that is higher than PFM.
The finding shows, there are variations in PEFR values between male and female. In
this findings, it demonstrates poor agreement between PEF from meter and PEF from
spirometer as the value being recorded by mini-Wright meter does not necessarily
reflect that recorded by siprometer.

3. Analyse the spirometric data (Volume-time curve, use batch data)

(i) Male vs female: Obtain the average(mean) value for BMI,FEV1,FVC and lung
age with respect to gender

Determine the gender differences in the lung function test FEV1,FVC and lung
age.Discuss your findings.

FEMALE Mean value

BMI 23.00

FEV1 2.53

FVC 2.65

Lung age 51.00

MALE Mean value

BMI 23.11

FV1 3.49

FVC 3.67

Lung age 56.07

The finding shows that as compare in gender, male have a higher FEV1 compared to
FVC as there is certain differences in lung geometry between the sexes because
females on averages would have smaller airway diameter and lung volumes typically
10.21% smaller than males of the same height and age.

Lung ages refers to the age that your spirometry test result would be normal and it
reflect some lung damages if someone smoking. From the table, it shows when there is
smokers among the student
