HAND AND POWER TOOLS WITH SYSTEM
MEASUREMENT
1 Marking material-chalk, Prussian blue. Cleaning tools- Scraper, wire brush, Emery paper, Description,
care and use of Surface plates, steel rule, measuring tape, try square. Calipers-inside and outside.
Dividers, surface gauges, scriber, punches-prick punch, center punch, pin punch, hollow punch,
number and letter punch. Chisel-flat, cross-cut. Hammer- ball pein, lump, mallet. Screw drivers-blade
screwdriver, Phillips screw driver, Ratchet screwdriver. Allen key, bench vice & C-clamps, Spanners-
ring spanner, open end spanner & the combination spanner, universal adjustable open end spanner.
Sockets & accessories, Pliers – Combination pliers, multi grip, long nose, flat-nose, Nippers or pincer

2 Fasteners- Study of different types of screws, nuts, studs & bolts, locking devices, such as lock nuts,
cotter, split pins keys, circlips, lock rings, lock washers and locating where they are used. Washers &
chemical compounds can be used to help secure these fasteners. Function of Gaskets, Selection of
materials for gaskets and packing, oil seals.
3 Cutting tools:-Study of different type of cutting tools like Hacksaw, File-Definition, parts of a file,
specification, Grade, shape, different type of cut ant uses., OFF-hand grinding with sander, Bench and
pedestal grinders, safety precautions while grinding.
4 Systems of measurement: Description, care & use of – Micrometers –Outside and depth micrometer,
Micrometer adjustments, Vernier calipers, Telescope gauges, Dial bore gauges, Dial Indicators,
straightedge, feeler gauge, thread pitch gauge, vacuum gauge, tire pressure gauge.

1 Ratio and Proportions – Shop problems. Percentage – shop problems & applications. Heat-treatment:
critical temperatures, annealing, normalizing, tempering, hardening, case-hardening. Mass, speed,
velocity, acceleration. Concept of gravity, gravitational force, centroid and center of gravity, centroid

requirements of pneumatic tyres.
2 Tyre Design: General, motion forces, heat buildup, types of bonding set of service conditions
tyre, sizerquirements, and safety requirements: Tread design, general, role of foot print area
and factors affecting treadlife, various types of tread pattern. Carcass design,role of foot print
area and factor affecting tread life, varioustypes of tread pattern. Carcass design, role of
various fibers used in carcass, estimation of number of piles, Beaddesign, single bead,
multiple beads, and various configurations of wires in bead assembly.

FEM210 DESIGN OF FARM POWER AND MACHINERY SYSTEMS
1 Tension test on metal specimen (M.S., C.I.) and observing the behaviour of materials under
load.
2 Calculating the value of E, ultimate stress permissible stress, percentage elongation etc. and
to study its fracture.
3 To perform the compression test on:cylinders& cubes, C.I., M.S.& wood specimens and to
determine various physical and mechanical properties.
4 To perform the bending test on the specimens; M.S.Girder, wooden beam, plain concrete
beams & R.C.C. beam, and to determine the various physical and mechanical properties.
5 To determine Young’s modulus of elasticity of beam with the help of deflection produced at
centre due to loads placed at centre &quarter points.
6 To study load the behaviour of materials (G.I. pipes, M.S., C.I ) under torsion and to evaluate
various elastic constants.
7 To study load deflection and other physical properties of closely coiled helical spring in tension
and compression.
8 To perform the Rockwell, vicker’s and Brinell’s Hardness tests on the given specimens.
