As a concerned customer of Chick Fil A, I encourage you to begin providing recycling cans for
your plastic containers that you serve food in (salad bowls, fruit bowls, icecream, etc). Your
containers were made recyclable, but if your customers are eating in the dining area and there is
no place to properly dispose of them this method of recycling is not efficient. There is no
purpose in having recyclable plastic if there is not a place to put recyclable items and therefore
everything will be disposed of in the garbage can.

I am a student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and have recently taken a course
where we strongly discussed the importance of sustainability and bettering our environment. As I
think that your company does many remarkable things, making this simple change would make it
that much better! The landfills in the United States are over occupied and take hundreds of years
for some of the materials to decompose. Plastic material is the item that takes the longest to
decompose in a landfill, taking anywhere from 500 to 1000 years. Landfills also release harmful
chemicals that are toxic to the earth. The toxins soak into the ground and into waterways which
then contaminates water to be carried to other destinations. This turns into harming
plants/animals that are using these waterways as their life source. It affects the quality of our
drinking water as well. The air quality is also diminished by releasing methane gas. This has
shown to be the cause of various respiratory diseases and lung cancer to the communities that
live around the areas of landfills. If your company makes this addition to adding recycling cans
to the dining areas,it would be a great start to decreasing the amount of pollution that is caused
from landfills. A plus for you is that it would decrease the amount of waste you have and your
only adding a few cans to each restaurant. It would also prompt other businesses to follow in
your footsteps.

If you do not make this change the numbers are only going to continue increasing as more and
more plastic keeps getting added to the landfills across the country. More people are going to
develop respiratory diseases, various types of cancers and be drinking unsanitary and unsafe
water. Many restaurants are taking action to advertise and promote the act of recycling all over
and need your help to spread the word. Chick Fil A is a well known company and you could
make a huge impact. I am asking you to make the addition of recycling cans to better our
environment and improve our air and water quality that the landfills are destroying.

Sincerely,
