Upgrading ION Enterprise

For further assistance
please contact us at:
The ION Enterprise Installation Wizard automates most of the process for
upgrading from ION Enterprise 3.0 or 4.0. By default, the installer chooses the
existing ION Enterprise folder to install ION Enterprise 4.5.

Worldwide Headquarters The installer converts most of the settings from your old system. The customized
2195 Keating Cross Road settings from the ION Enterprise\config folder are copied into the new ION
Saanichton, BC Enterprise Primary Server’s\config folder. These include:

NOTE
For Technical Services diagnostics purposes, all registry entries from previous versions of ION Enterprise
remain after the upgrade.

A complete new set of the above ION Enterprise files are installed into the
\config-NEW folder. It then updates the \config folder with any new files without
overwriting any existing files. In addition, all Windows Desktop and Start menu
shortcuts are updated, reflecting the new ION Enterprise location.

If your system requires multiple Log Servers, or your Log Server does not reside
on the Primary Server, please contact Technical Services.

If you must preserve any custom shortcuts for Vista or the Alarm Printer before
the upgrade, or you have any special VIP or Log Server configurations, refer to the
following sections.

Upgrading your System Hardware

Prior to upgrade, please ensure you are familiar with the ION Enterprise
hardware requirements. You can review the Hardware Requirements in the ION

Preserving Custom Shortcuts Upgrading ION Enterprise

Upgrading your Operating System

Although ION Enterprise is compatible with Windows NT 4.0 service pack 6a, it is
recommended that you upgrade any server or client computers with Windows
2000 prior to upgrading to ION Enterprise 4.5.

ION Enterprise requires Windows Scripting Engine 5.6. The Windows 2000
installer overwrites this version with Windows Scripting Engine 5.0. This causes
the Options Manager to stop working (an ‘Object does not support property or
method’ error), and prevents any devices from being added to the NOM database.
To correct this problem, run scripten.exe from the ION Enterprise installers to
reinstate Windows Scripting Engine 5.6. However, you can avoid this situation
entirely if you upgrade your operating system before you upgrade ION
Enterprise.

Preserving Custom Shortcuts

You may want to save your custom shortcuts from a previous ION Enterprise
install. Custom arguments are sometimes used for auto-logon, or to open a specific
Vista diagram upon startup, or for Alarm Printer command line arguments.

Copy any custom shortcuts to a safe location before upgrading. After the upgrade,
adjust each shortcut’s Target properties with the new ION Enterprise pathname.
