Introduction
• Bamboo shade- Green Structure
• Bamboo has higher compressive
strength than wood, brick and
concrete
• Higher tensile strength that rivals
steel
Literature Survey
1) Test of Bamboo Material for Structural Purpose
1. Test of Bamboo Material for Structural Purpose

• Test on Charotar bamboo (Kheda

region)
• Specimen:- Free from defects, freshly
felled culms
• Physical properties:-
Water displacement method
1. Moisture content
2. Basic mass per volume or density
3. Shrinkage (along- diameter, wall
thickness, length)

Shrinkage Test on bamaboo

1. Test of Bamboo Material for Structural Purpose

• Mechanical properties:-
1. Static bending strength
(Deflection at middle of span
is noted)
Static bending strength test
2. Compressive strength parallel
to grain
3. Tensile strength parallel to
grain

Compressive strength test

Literature Survey
2. Structural Analysis of Bamboo Trusses Structure
in Greenhouse
2. Structural Analysis of Bamboo Trusses Structure in
Greenhouse
• More thickness of bamboo gives more density of the
fibres in cross section.
• Bamboo truss design parameters
 Single span greenhouse
 Type of truss – diagonal and vertical members
 6 types of trusses
 Combination of load from constant uniform load
(DL, LL, WL)
 Joint connections- drilling connection
2. Structural Analysis of Bamboo Trusses Structure in
Greenhouse
• Steps for structural analysis
 Tensile test
 Compressive test
 Bending test
Literature Survey
3. Bolted Bamboo Joints Reinforced with Fibers
3.Bolted Bamboo Joints Reinforced with Fibers

• Pipe like cross section with excellent

mechanical properties
• Specific gravity varies from 0.55 to 0.75
• Major issue:- Bamboo splitting
• 17 single- bolted bamboo joints were
prepared
3.Bolted Bamboo Joints Reinforced with Fibers
Testing:-
• 4 Joints in perpendicular loading direction and rest are in parallel loadind direction
• Double shear configuration connected by 12 mm bolts and tested under quasi-
static load
• Reinforced with natural fiber and FRP
Result:-
• Increase of joint slip modulus and load carrying capacity
• Wrapping effect by FRP sheets postponed the bamboo splitting failure
Literature Survey
4. Determination of Several properties of a Bamboo
of Bangladesh
4. Determination of Several properties of a Bamboo of
Bangladesh
• Bamboo specimen- Collected from one three years old tree
• 30 samples were tested to fid the ultimate strength
• Stress-strain curve of 5 samples were studied to fid out Young’s modulus and yield
strength using offset method
• Finding Bond strength of bamboo with concrete by experimental setup of Pull out
test
• Pull out test- 3 tyes of specimens prepared. Each type include 2 specimen
• Comparison between unit weight, strength and cost were made
4. Determination of Several properties of a Bamboo of

Literature Survey
5. The Potential of Bamboo as Building Material in
Organic Shaped Buildings
5. The Potential of Bamboo as Building Material in Organic
Shaped Buildings

• Bamboo – Sustainable building material, easily cultivated and harvested, reusable

material
• It will classify bamboo is formed in curve thus result in an organic form
• Relationship between shape, structure , construction and joints system
• Construction techniques
o Bamboo split method and bamboo bundling
o Hot bending method and cold bending method
