When asked if the shelter projects in Hawaii are effective or not the response given was, “Yes it
provides individuals the opportunity to restart their lives.”
When asked what some of the factors of homelessness in Hawaii are the response given was,
“Rising cost of living, drug addiction, homeless relocation.”
The idea of laws about homelessness came up and when asked if there any laws needed to help
stop the crisis and idea was shared that, “yes we need to have a law to stop other states from
sending their homeless population to Hawaii.”
This interview that was taken has helped me with my understanding and has given me a
new perspective on the crisis especially with the given information on what these policy makers
are not taking into account and neglecting to emphasize. With the insight given from the
interview taken over an email conversation it seems that government has made some strides to
tackle the issue but it is clearly not enough especially with the idea of states “sending” their
homeless population to Hawaii and we actually shouldn’t be surprised by the idea that Hawaii is
one of the states with the worst homeless issue. But I do want to recognize one of the factors
listed which is the cost of living. And my question is why this an issue is if you know that many
people suffer from this and it’s not done by themselves then why not take initiative and lower the
cost of living. That is one of the driving questions that I got out of the interview regarding policy
makers taking action and tackling this ongoing issue.
This is a reputable and reliable article because this interview was taken with one of the
directors of the H4 project.
