DIY Clothespins

Bored in quarantine? Try these simple DIY clothespins to cure the boredom and add
some zest to your spaces!

Adding a pop of color to your spaces can completely change the dynamic of the area.
You won’t regret having these clips on hand to hang up your very favorite photos,
quotes, recipes, or anything you can dream up. With so much extra time on our
hands, we are all looking for new crafts and hobbies to keep us busy- creating these
vibrant clothespins is the solution. So get ready to create this trendy DIY craft!

You don’t need many supplies. Here’s what you’ll need: clothespins, washi tape,
scissors, and an X-Acto knife. Depending on your idea and the materials you have
on hand, you really can’t go wrong with this DIY.

As far as the clothespins go, you can choose any size you want. For my
demonstration, I created both small and large examples! When choosing your washi
tape, there’s a large assortment of colors. Pick the ones that you want and that vibe
best with your space.

If you don’t have the supplies I mentioned above, there are alternate DIY paths you
can take. For one, you can use modge podge with scrapbooking paper. Another
option is to use fabric material with fabric glue. Other ideas include using fingernail
polish or paint. If you want to go even further, you can attach magnets to the back of
your clothespins!

The first step in my washi tape clothespins DIY is to gather your supplies. Along
with the X-Acto knife, you will want to have a self-healing cutting mat to use to
protect your surfaces. If you don’t have a mat on hand, try using a heavy piece of
cardboard. Also, if you don’t have an X-Acto knife, a utility knife is a good substitute.

Next, cut a length of tape that extends about a half-inch from each end of the
clothespin. Once the length is right, lay it sticky-side up and apply the clothespin to
the piece of tape. When the clothespin is attached, use the X-Acto knife to trim the
excess tape from the long sides. Then, wrap the remaining tape on the ends around
the front and rear of the clothespin.

You will repeat the above steps on both sides of the clothespin. The last part of this
DIY is revealing the metal portion of the clothespin. To do this, use your X-Acto knife
to make a slit where the metal is. You can then push the extra tape down so it is
hidden or simply trim it all off. This step is optional, as you can choose to leave the
metal portions covered.
Now your DIY clothespins are complete! When it comes time to utilize them, you
have a multitude of options. For my example, I showed how you could hang pictures
up on display! If you attach a magnet, the clothespins can be used on your fridge or
file cabinets to post reminders or positive notes. Another option is using them as
clips for snacks and chip bags to keep your food fresh.

A bonus is that many occupational therapists use clothespins to work on mobility

and fine motor skills. Creating these fun clothespins will make doing the exercises
more exciting.
