IRRIGATION MANAGEMENT- MITIGATION OF WATER WASTAGE

The intelligent use of water is not a single time event but it is a practice that saves your bucks in
future. In the Middle East, mostly all the giant irrigation manufacturers have their presence in
the market.

In any commercial project, there would be well established specifications for each activity e.g.
hardscape, planting, irrigation, landscape lighting & many more.

A correct concept based on project location is a necessary task that must be taken into
consideration. In most of the project, landscape plan decides the irrigation type to be used. But
some time more articulated landscape plan makes the irrigation designer to be very
unmanageable. I have seen in many projects the same scenario. One type of irrigation
technique cannot be taken into consideration.

 In less windy areas – Pop up Sprayers are suitable for grass,

 In high windy areas- Instead of pop up sprayers, it is better to use subsurface irrigation.
(Refer to attached photo, ADCO Project Site in Abu Dhabi). In this condition, it will
require more manpower & water, hence resulting in more running cost.

Controlling water wastage in Residential Landscape: Irrigation automation is a standard and

effective way to control water uses. An Irrigation designer achieves this by doing a balanced
hydraulic design and type of emitter. You may install a water meter to monitor water
consumption in your backyard garden.

Controlling water wastage in Commercial Landscape: Irrigation automation is a standard and

effective way to control water uses. An Irrigation designer achieves this by balanced hydraulic
design, advanced featured controller, flow sensor, pressure compensated water emitters/
sprayers, proper crop factors, deficit irrigation methods.

The other way to control the water requirement in project may be promoting local species
wherever possible.
