Adapting to the needs of tudents 7.q. The teacher believes that plans must always be open to adjustment and revision based on learner needs and changing circumstances In 2015, I went to Thailand to teach English to third through fifth graders. My team split up in pairs to teach different areas of English. My partner and | taught what you would say at a doctor's office. When we first planned what we were going to teach, we had this elaborate plan where we were going to teach sentences such as "My stomach hurts," "I hurt my foot, playing football,” and so on. We were wrong. We noticed the students were not comprehending what we were teaching, on day one. We knew that we were not going to have a translator all the time, so we had to make some changes. We changed our lesson to body parts and one sentence. "I hurt my.” Things went smoother, and the students caught on to what we w teaching them. They loved sing “head, shoulders, knees, and toes." It was an excellent way for students to learn while having fun. Having the opportunity to teach students that know no English was something that will impact my life forever. I was what made me want to become a teacher because I enjoyed it so much, This scenario taught me to adapt to when it was needed for the students, On this trip, I have to plan what I was doing ahead of time, so I was ready for the students so that they could get the most out of the lesson. We only had about 10 minutes with the students, My responsibility as teacher is to decide what is best for my students.
