(C) Do you think we will ever have a cashless society? What will it be like?

Will the advantages

outweigh the disadvantages? Go to Forum, Unit 6, Lesson A, A cashless society? and post your
answer.

In many ways, the cashless society is already with us. Many people do not consider it necessary to
carry much cash, and pay for small purchases, such as coffee with a card. However, if we do not
use cash at all, there will be a number of advantages and some disadvantages for us. First, it will
certainly be more convenient because you won't need to find an ATM when you run out of cash,
or have to find the correct change for vending machines. Second, it might be healthier because
paper money can carry germs and viruses. Finally, coins can be very heavy and credit cards are
lighter.

The disadvantages will be the same as they are now. People are going to get into debt more easily
because it's easier to spend more with credit cards. You don't realize how much you are spending.
Secondly, the phone and card companies are going to be able to keep track of your spending
habits more than they would with cash. This means there will be a greater invasion of our privacy
when we stop using cash. Finally, there are going to be more opportunities for thieves to steal
credit card information, and therefore more cases of credit card fraud.

In general, there will be many advantages to a cashless society, but, in my opinion, the
disadvantages will outweigh the advantages.
