Identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.

2. Objectives:
Students will be able to summarize the main topic in the book, All Are Welcome.

3. Materials/Equipment:
Book- All Are Welcome
Blooms Level (SWBAT)
All Are Welcome Worksheet
Pencil
Crayons/Colored Pencils

4. Teaching:
A. Reading the book:
o The teacher will explain what a Multicultural Book is to the class.
o Introduce and read the book, All Are Welcome, to the class.
B. Extension Activity:
o The teacher will write, “Main Topic” on the whiteboard.
o The teacher will ask students to raise their hand to tell what the main topic of the
book is.
o The teacher will write the answers on the board under “Main Topic.”
o The teacher will write “Key Details” on the whiteboard.
o The teacher will then ask students to raise their hand and tell what key details
support the main topic.
o The teacher will write the responses on the board.
o The teacher will hand out the All Are Welcome Worksheet.
o The teacher will tell the students they are to write the main idea of the book, All
Are Welcome. Then they will write what they can do to make a friend feel
welcome at school. Lastly, they will draw a picture of them helping a friend to
feel welcome in school.

5. Closure:
To wrap up this activity, the teacher will ask the students to raise their hand and share what they
can do to help a friend feel welcome. The student can also show the picture they drew to the
class.
