Changes to ECA (ECA2)

Background
A number of improvements to the ECA unit
have been combined in one larger upgrade. The
new ECA unit with the improvements men-
tioned below will be called ECA2 in this docu-
ment.

Main changes:
• Electrical connection with better protection
against moisture penetration.
• Improved circuit board design.
This TI will be updated when more information
becomes available.

There are different cable harnesses for different
vehicles: see the table at the end of this docu-
ment.

1. Lower the suspension to release the air


from the bellows.
2. Switch off the battery master switch or dis-
connect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove any noise shields under the gear-
box.
4. Detach connectors E93 (2), T156 (3) and
the voltage and ground connector (1) from
the clutch actuator.

5. Remove the clutch actuator (ECA 1.0). See


the Workshop Manual, section 04-01

6. Fit the new clutch actuator (ECA 2.0). See

7. Cut off all cable ties attaching the clutch ac-
tuator cable harness to the standard gearbox
cable harness up to the interface on the
right-hand side of the frame (C318 and
C319).

8. Disconnect connectors C318 and C319. Re-


move the clutch actuator cable harness.

9. Fit the connector E93 (1) on the new clutch


actuator. Fit T156 (2) on the reservoir.

10. Fit the new clutch actuator cable harness on


the gearbox, starting at the clutch actuator.
Fit the cable ties that attach the cable har-
ness to the standard gearbox cable harness.
If the new cable harness is too long: Cut
the cable harness and reconnect with the
pins supplied at C318 and C319.

11. Connect the new cable harness by fitting


connectors C318 and C319.
12. Fit any noise shields under the gearbox.
13. Switch on the battery master switch or fit
the negative battery cable.
14. Fill the bellows with air.

1. Lower the suspension to release the air

7. Remove the cable duct under the gearbox.
8. Detach the bracket from the reverse gear
housing.

9. Cut off all cable ties attaching the clutch ac-


tuator cable harness to the standard gearbox
cable harness up to gearbox control unit E5
and the interface on the left-hand side of the
frame (C194).

10. Disconnect cable harness GMS152 and


GMS153 from harness-to-component con-
nector C194. Use 99 585 Cable terminal re-
moval tool.
11. Remove the gearbox control unit cover.

12. Detach harness-to-component connector


E5.B from the gearbox control unit.

13. Remove the black cover from E5.B.


Disconnect the pins from connector E5.B.
Use tools 588 192 and 99 586.
a. Detach electrical cable GMS154 from E5.B
pin B32.
b. Detach electrical cable GMS155 from E5.B
pin B29.
c. Detach electrical cable GMS156 from E5.B
pin B19.
d. Detach electrical cable GMS157 from E5.B
pin B1.

14. Fit the connector E93 (1) on the new clutch


actuator. Fit T156 (2) on the reservoir.
