Caterpillar announces the availability of Ultra-Strength 40 glass

for the operator’s compartment on Cat D6R, D7R, D8R, D9R,
D10R and D11R Track-Type Tractors. Ultra-Strength 40 glass is
designed to provide additional protection for the operator when
working in applications where there is a risk of accidental tractor
burial, such as coal stockpiles with bottom feed conveyors.

Features Ultra-Strength 40 glass is used at every window location in the
operator’s compartment for improved operator protection. The glass
is framed and is bonded to the outside window frame of the cab.
The windows do not open. Ultra-Strength 40 glass is designed to
188-2904 withstand external pressures of up to 40 psi. It does not provide
additional impact resistance beyond the current standard glass.

Benefits Ultra-Strength 40 glass is bonded to the outside metal frame of

the operator’s compartment for improved operator security.

Unlike window support systems, Ultra-Strength 40 glass does not

decrease operator visibility or increase operator noise levels.

Ultra-Strength 40 glass meets the recommendations of the Mining

Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and has been approved
by the West Virginia Board of Coal Mine Health and Safety.

Ultra-Strength 40 glass meets West Virginia legislative regulations

which states: “Beginning January 1, 2001, all mobile equipment
manually operated on coal stockpiles shall be equipped with an
enclosed cab fitted with glass certified to withstand 40 psi.”.

Factory installed Ultra-Strength 40 glass can be ordered on the Ordering Information
D6R, D7R, D8R, D9R, D10R and D11R.

Factory installed part numbers are:

201-0702 — D6R, D7R, D8R
197-7505 — D6R, D7R, D8R (Series II, when available)
201-0700 — D10R
197-7504 — D9R, D10R, D11R (updated series)

Retrofit kits. Ultra-Strength 40 glass can also be ordered for field

installation on the D6 and D7, H- and R-Series tractors, and for
the D8 through D11, L-, N- and R-Series tractors.

Retrofit kits include the Ultra-Strength 40 glass for each window,

installation instructions, insert for the operators’ manual, and a
shim for the door handle. The kit does not include urethane or
primer because it is recommended that a professional glass
installer perform the installation.

The retrofit kits can be ordered through the Parts and Service
Department. The part numbers are:

**To determine what kit to order, measure the window opening from inside
the seal. If it measures 48 inches order 197-2716. If it measures 49 inches
order 203-8741.
