Describe the community service/professional activity/s you attended or participated with (be
specific about the purpose and your role):
I attended an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) class with six other nursing
students that was conducted by Eclipse CPR. We had to review EKG, pharmacology, and
application of cardiac life support content take a pre-test prior to taking the class and have a
passing score of 70% or above. The purpose of this activity was to gain more knowledge of life
support and to obtain my ACLS certification. My role was to be a student in the class and now to
Where was this held and what was was program/activity length?
The ACLS class was held at the Eclipse CPR office on Speedway Blvd. The activity
length was a total of eight hours. This time included the time to review the content prior to class,
taking the pretest, the class itself (5 hours), and completing the evaluation form.
This experience was very valuable to me because I have the knowledge to assist during a
code. I was able to learn more about the steps during a code which will help me be an effective
team member during a code. I also know what the protocol is, what to expect during a code, and
I will use this experience throughout my nursing career when I am involved in a code. I
will utilize my skills learned in this class to be an effective team member in a code. I will also
use my skills to help any pedestrians I see who shows signs of cardiac arrest. The information of

I would recommend this professional experience in the future. This is very useful
information when working in healthcare. We were informed in our class that Tucson’s survival
rate for cardiac arrest patients are 6%. With more people educated on how to identify cardiac
arrest and taking the right measures, we can hopefully increase the survival rate.
