Topic Tricky Time Telling

Subject Mathematics
Integrated Language, social studies
subject(s)
Materials required A analogue clock, dices, worksheet paper, chop stamp ( different
colour)
Time and duration 30 minutes
of lesson
No. of children 12
Age of children 6 years old
Children’s previous  Children able to read out the time when using digital clock
relevant experience  Children understand short hand indicates the hour and long
hand indicates the minutes
 Children have experience playing with dice.
Objective of lesson Acquire knowledge on time concept
Learning outcomes Children able to identify the time using analogue clock
NPSC standard MA5.1 Understand time in the context of daily life
MA 5.1.4 State the time in hours using analogue clock
How the  Teacher will gather children in the circle.
lesson/activity will  Teacher will first recap on last lesson about the short hand and
be introduced long hand of the clock.
 To teach children about the analogue clock, teacher will show out
a big analogue clock to the children and teach them how to see
the clock.
 Start to show times by write time like 7:00 or 11:00 on the
whiteboard and then teacher adjust the clock to 7:00, and tell the
children this is 7:00, when the clock short hand point to 7, and
the long hand point to 12.
 When teacher write 4:30, it means when the short hand point to
4, and the long hand point to 6. This will directly teach the
children that, 6 is 30 minutes.
 After the explanation, teacher will tell the children they are going
to play a game.
A detailed  Teacher will separate children into pair, each group will get a
description of how dice, different colour chop and each children will get a worksheet
the lesson/activity paper.
will be  Children will need to take turn and roll the dice. For example,
implemented when they roll to the face 1, mean they need to read out the face
1 roll’s clock. (In the worksheet, each roll has four different
clock that point to different time.)
 As it is pair in a group, so when one of the children read out,
another children will listen and can help each other, if they said
wrongly.
 After that, the child will need to chop a stamp on the clock to
show out they done one.
 Only when they finish all, they raise up their hand.
How the lesson  When children have raise their hand, teacher will walk through
will be concluded and have a check, by point at some clock and ask the children to
ensure that, they have the concept on it.
 When all the children have done the activity, teacher will show
them the big clock by telling them it is time for the next class ( as
the children start to learn time, teacher will always show out the
clock, by letting the children to know what time it is now and
what they should do, to practice their time concept)

Rationale
The purpose of designing this lesson plan is to teach children to understand time and
learn to see analogue clock. Although nowadays, things get advance and people had invented
digital clock, but learn to see analogue clock also can help with children. For instead, when
they go for travel, they are some countries’ travel spot like London’s Big Ben, it is a big
analogue clock. If the children do not learn to see analogue clock, he or she will no
understand the special of a clock.
Why time? It’s critical that we blend their natural skills and talents with societal rules.
This is why we help children learn about time by incorporating routines into their usual play,
as play is something they truly understand. The key thing to keep in mind while teaching
children about time is that the way they understand it now leads directly into how time rules
their lives in the future (Josh, 2018). For this reason, it is important that as we teach the
concepts and construct of time in the formative years, we practice with time decisions that
lead to a future of success versus stability and stress. Without this knowledge, we raise
children to become adults that tend to be dabblers and vulnerable to other people’s decisions
(Josh, 2018). They will live in the effect of having to accept what they get instead of teaching
them that they’re responsible for creating what they want. The sooner that the child grasps
this concept, the better they’re going to learn how to maximize their life and their time. (The
Psychologist, 2012)
