Motion 1
• CONTEXT: Today’s popular culture has largely accepted that there exists a
pattern in the development of artistic genius along with mental diseases such as
manic-depressive disorders or psychotic disorders. Many famous poets and
writers such as Melville, Blake, Shelley, Byron and even Coleridge showed definite
symptoms of the genetically influenced maniac- depressive disorder. Though the
scientific literature on the relationship between madness and genius is limited,
some preliminary studies exist on the issue. asserts that highly creative people
have elevated risks to certain psychopathologies (mood disorders, schizophrenias,
etc.), though the question of whether these risks actually enhance their creative
capabilities remains unresolved. A cultural motif is a symbolic image or idea that
appears frequently in the popular narrative.
MOTION: This House Regrets The Popular Motif of A ‘Mad Genius’
Motion 2
CONTEXT: A version of AI that can perform psychological counselling and therapy
sessions has been created and is widely and affordably available. Through machine
learning, this AI was devised after going through decades of psychological literature
and counselling cases to come up with a highly efficient form of psychological
counselling. The AI therapist knows exactly the right questions to ask and can
algorithmically evaluate the responses and directions in which the person who is
being counselled can go. In countries like India or Japan, with growing population
pressures and cultural impositions, the state of mental health is very poor. These
are also societies which are highly industrial and agricultural and fields of social and
psychological sciences are not prioritized over STEM fields.
MOTION: In industrial societies with poor mental health statistics, THS the rise of
AI Therapists.
