BOIL WATER ADVISORY IN EFFECT
FOR
WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP
Applicable Date: Wednesday, January 22, 2020 @ 4:00 p.m.
Effective immediately, the Charter Township of West Bloomfield is required to issue a Boil Water
Advisory for its Residents and Businesses in the areas of East of Hiller and North of Greer Roads.
Wellington Woods # 1 & # 2, Wellington Meadows and Woodlands of West Bloomfield Subs.
These locations in the Township have lost water pressures less than 20 P.S.I. Repair crews are
currently working to resolving the water system related issue of the 16” diameter transmission main
located along Greer Road. However, a Boil Water Advisory must remain in effect until further
notice is provided from the West Bloomfield Water Utilities Department Director or
Superintendent. *Kindly note that both Residents and Businesses may also experience lower than
normal water pressure, have no water, or experience a discoloration of water from the interior
water tap.
Due to the unknown extent of the current problematic West Bloomfield water transmission main
failure, repairing this problem and placing public water back into service and removing a Boil
Water Advisory, it’s estimated to take at least three days in duration in order to place these
affected areas of the water system of West Bloomfield into a no boil water status.
Boil Water Instructions:
Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute of time. Let cool for approximately 15
minutes before drinking boiled water. Proceed to store the cooled water in a clean
container and seal it with a cover.
Consumers should use boiled water that has cooled or use bottled water for the following:
Drinking
Brushing of Teeth
Washing of fruits and vegetables
Preparing food and baby formula
Making ice
Giving water to animals/pets
Use unscented bleach to disinfect supplies of water. Mix 8 drops (1/8 teaspoon) of bleach
per one gallon of water. Mix well and let the water stand for 30 minutes before use.
Other Steps:
Turn on your tap slowly and run the water to flush water pipes for 5 minutes.
You may need to clean appliances such as water softeners, filter units, waste dispensers and
ice makers. Read owner’s manuals for specific directions to clean appliances.
