UPDATED DIRECTIONS Olympic Bid Project Proposal - NO AUDIT-1
When is it due?
Individual Directions Email – By 8pm on October 26th
Meeting with Mel or Daigo – November 15th (Disregard the course schedule date)

PowerPoint Deck – By 8pm on December 3rd
PowerPoint Deck Presentation – December 4th or 6th (You will not know which date until December 3rd)
Olympic Bid Book – By 8pm on December 6th
Group Evaluation – By 8pm on December 6th
What is due?
• 7-page minimum (single spaced) Bid Book that answers the following:
o What is your team’s vision for the 2032* Olympic Games in your chosen host city?
o Why will your 2032 Olympic Games inspire people around the world and in the host city?
o What will be the legacy of the 2032 Olympic Games in your host city?
o How does your team plan to stage the event?
o What will it cost and who will finance the 2032 Olympic Games?
*You can choose a different year if you justify why you did so*
• 8 - 10-minute PowerPoint Deck that addresses the following:
o Summary of your group bid
o Summary of all group member audits
• Individual Directions Email
• Individual Group Member Evaluation
You should use outside resources as well as the resources available in the Olympic Bid Project, Week 4 and
Week 5 modules on Canvas.
Coordinator
1. Complete The Facilities & Operation Plan section of the document, items 2, 5, 6, 7, 10.
2. Local venue audit.
Manager
1. Complete The Vision section of the document.
2. Local venue audit.
3. Format the final Bid Book.
Director
1. Complete The Budget section of the document.
2. Local venue audit.
3. Format the PowerPoint Deck.
4. Compile the APA list of citations for the Bid Book.
5. Turn in the final PowerPoint Deck and Bid Book.
At a minimum, The Facilities & Operation Plan section should address/include the following:
1. A list of at least 10 sports (cannot be one of the sports listed under the Local Venue Audit)
o The sports you select must be drawn from the membership of SportAccord, the international
federation of sports governing bodies.
o Your list of sports must include athletics and swimming or modern pentathlon (summer) or
curling and biathlon (winter).
o How did you come up with your list of ten?
2. A location for each of the sporting events.
o You can use existing venues or propose venues to be constructed.
o Why are your venues suitable for the event? Include seating capacity, size, makeup of venue
(example if you chose judo, taekwondo and basketball, you might choose Tully Gym to house
these sports because it is a multi-purpose venue).
3. A timeline for a Games that will run for 14 days in the summer or 10 days in the winter.
o List what sports will be playing in what venues on what days (don’t forget the ceremonies!).
o You do not need to include times.
4. An Athlete’s Village for 10,000 athletes and 2,500 officials
5. An Olympic stadium
6. Transportation options and/or construction of transportation
7. Accommodations for 500,000 visitors
8. A ticketing plan
o Where you will sell tickets (online? What website? In person?)
o How will tickets be scanned for entry into venue?
o Average ticket price for Opening Ceremony
o Average ticket price for sporting event
9. Musician(s) that will perform at your opening ceremony (at least one)
10. Musician(s) that will perform at your closing ceremony (at least one)
The Vision
What is it about your bid and your city that will inspire and motivate a generation of citizens, athletes, and a
global audience? In developing your plan you should focus on the history of your city/region, its current status
and the legacy you expect to derive from the event. What are the themes that will create a memorable 2032
Olympic Games which will be a shining example to future generations? This should be at least 1 page.
The Budget
What are the major operating revenue and cost items? This should be at least 1 page, listing only the largest
items. What are the major capital expenses? How will they be paid for? You do not need to create an Excel
sheet or include formulas (unless you want to).
The Formatting
Bid Book
The final document should be a hard copy, printed in color and front to back. Everyone can have a
hand in formatting, but the Manager will be the one held accountable when group evaluations are
conducted.
• At least 7 pages, single-spaced.
• Has color and headers.
• Has at least 5 photographs (smaller than ½ of the page) included (excluding the logo).
• Each page should be numbered.
• Has a title page (not included in page count) that lists the title of the bid, the logo, the class
number, the group number, the group member names and the group member roles.
• Include an APA citation as the last page of the document (not included in page count).
• Document is aesthetically pleasing and easy to reference.
PowerPoint Deck
Everyone can have a hand in formatting, but the Director will be the one held accountable when group
evaluations are conducted.
o Inclusion of at least 4 photographs.
§ Include at least 1 photo from each group member’s Local Venue Audit.
o Include a title page – Title, Class Number, Group Number, Group Member Names, Group
Member Titles and logo.
o At least one slide for each Local Venue Audit (to be provided by each group member).
o Slides that address the Facilities & Operational Plan, Vision and Budget.
o Presentation is aesthetically pleasing and easy to reference.
Local Venue Audit
Each group member will audit a local venue (anywhere north of Orlando and South of Atlanta).
• Choose a sport. Each group member must choose a different sport. These are all summer sports, but
you will choose one of the below even if you are bidding for the Winter Olympics.
§ Wheelchair Racing
§ Sitting Volleyball
§ Powerlifting
§ Wheelchair Fencing
§ Wheelchair Rugby
§ Goalball
• Choose a venue. Each group member must choose a different venue.
• Provide your 1 – 2 formatted slides for your venue to your Manager. The slides should include:
o 4 photos (minimum)
§ 1 photo should be of you at the venue (a selfie is fine).
§ 1 photo of the venue entrance.
§ 2 photos of your choice that are related to one of your talking points for your
presentation.
o Your venue name and physical address.
o SWOT analysis (i.e., strength, weakness, opportunity, threat) – At least one for each item
o Address all Sportscape factors.
§ Parking access, architectural design and appearance, interior décor, facility layout,
wayfinding signage, facility space, seat comfort, equipment quality, scoreboards and
sound systems, cleanliness, perceived crowding
o The sport you chose
o Explanation for why you chose that venue. Should be in bullet points, not full sentences.
• Provide your Director with a ½ page report on your venue. It should include:
o One photograph (can be the same as one used in the PowerPoint Deck).
o Your venue name and physical address.
o Paragraph that explains your sport and what makes this venue fit for your sport.
