Highlights
This paper proposes a real time sliding mode control for variable speed wind turbine
system.
PT
The proposed control law improves the efficiency of the wind turbine system,
because the turbine speed is adjusted as a function of the wind velocity in order to
RI
maximize the output power.
A robust aerodynamic torque observer is proposed in order to avoid the use of wind
SC
speed sensors. This torque observer allows to estimate the aerodynamic torque to
be used by the controller in order to calculate the value of the optimal reference
speed for the wind turbine.
U
The Lyapunov stability theory is employed in order to demonstrate the closed loop
stability of the proposed control scheme.
AN
The performance of the proposed control scheme has been validated in a text bench
that we have designed and constructed.
M
The real time experimental results show, on the one hand that the proposed
controller improves the system efficiency and on the other hand that this scheme is
D
robust with respect to the system uncertainties and wind velocity variations that
usually appear in the real systems.
