Q.2.How to Independent T Test in SPSS?

Independent T-Test
A T-test is a statistic that check if two means (averages) are reliable different
from each other.
Useful for determining if there is a difference in the mean scores of 2 groups.

From menu at the top screen click “Analyze”
Then click the “Compare Mean”
Then click “Independent-sample-T-Test”
Independent sample T-Test portion open
First add independent variable select in
“Grouping Variable” box.
Select independent variable through arrow
Then click “Define group”

Define group appear


Type in number use in data code each group
Group:1 type
Group:2 type
Then click “Continue”

Then add dependent variable in test variable box


Click the Arrow button
Now finish click ‘OK”

Result generated of T-Test

Males (M=27.40, SD=6.025, n=5)

Female (M=38.40 SD=18.40, n=5)


The result of Lenene’s test F(5)=4.188, Sig=0.075 indicate that the variances of the two population are
assumed to be approximately equal. Thus the standard T-test result were used.

The result of the independent T-Test were not significant, t(5)= -1.270, independent that there is no
significant difference between the score of males (M=-11.00,SD=8.561, n=5) and the score of Females
(M=-11.00,SD=8.61, n=5) both are equal.

The formula for eta squared:

t(squared)/t(squared) +(N2-2)

-1.270(squared)/-1.270(squared) +5+5-2)
