Past Simple

Χρήση: O Past Simple χρησιμοποιείται για πράξεις που συνέβησαν σε

συγκεκριμένη χρονική στιγμή στο παρελθόν ή για πράξεις που συνέβησαν η
μία μετά την άλλη.

Σχηματισμός: Στα ομαλά ρήματα σχηματίζεται με την κατάληξη -ed

Αν το ρήμα τελειώνει ήδη σε -e, τότε παίρνει μόνο κατάληξη -d (like-liked)
Αν το ρήμα τελειώνει σε σύμφωνο και -y, τότε φεύγει το -y και μπαίνει η
κατάληξη -ied (cry-cried)
Αν το ρήμα είναι μονοσύλλαβο και τελειώνει με σύμφωνο-φωνήεν-σύμφωνο, τότε
το τελευταίο σύμφωνο διπλασιάζεται (stop-stopped)
Στην ερώτηση και την άρνηση χρησιμοποιείται το βοηθητικό ρήμα did και το
ρήμα επιστρέφει στην αρχική του μορφή (απαρέμφατο)

• last night/week, last month/year (την προηγούμενη νύχτα/εβδομάδα, τον
προηγούμενο μήνα/χρόνο)
• when (όταν)
• a week ago (πριν μια εβδομάδα)

 Past Continuous
Χρήση: O Past Continuous χρησιμοποιείται για πράξεις που συνέβαιναν σε μια
συγκεκριμένη στιγμή στο παρελθόν και είχαν διάρκεια.
- Με το “while” μιλάμε για δύο πράξεις που συνέβαιναν ταυτόχρονο η μία με την
άλλη: The children were playing, while mother was talking on the phone.
- Με το “when”, αλλά και το “while”, μπορούμε να μιλήσουμε για μια πράξη που
βρισκόταν σε διάρκεια και διακόπηκε από μία άλλη: I was eating dinner, when the
phone rang.
- It was a cold night and it was raining.

Σχηματισμός: Σχηματίζεται με το βοηθητικό ρήμα was/were και την κατάληξη

-ing πίσω στο ρήμα. (I was playing, you were cooking)
