PREPARATION

1. Prior to commencing the replacement of a Glass unit it is essential to ensure

the availability of all of the necessary equipment, materials and specialist
services that could be required to complete the operation, a checklist of which
is as follows

 External access must be available for the duration of the replacement

exercise, (allow a full day). Due to the weight of the vision units
(typically 200 kgs) we recommend that the house cradle is not used for
replacement of the vision glass.
 A purpose made external access system is available via Innovators
Façade System Pvt. Ltd.
 A replacement glazed unit, which has been dimensionally checked in
all respects to ensure that it will fit within the window opening must be
available.

 Replacement external gaskets and glazing beads for the perimeter of

the window, in case any of the original gaskets have been damaged as
a function of the need to replace the glass, or become damaged during
the replacement of the glass.
 Standard re-glazing equipment and materials including hand vacuum
suckers, a toolkit including a variety of screwdrivers, a rubber mallet,
and other general tools, and also plastic shims to pack the
replacement glass around the rebate.

2. The area inside the window to be replaced must be prepared by means of

clearing a sufficient space to work (we suggest a minimum area of 2m x 2m).
If external weather conditions deteriorate, then weather protection should be
provided on the floor to preclude damage to the inside of the building
occurring as a consequence of an opening being created in the external
façade.

Replacement of a vision Glass unit

 Install internal protection as necessary.

 Cordon off the area at the base of the building below the glass to be
replaced, to preclude access to members of the public. It may be
advisable to station an operative near this area, who should be in
contact with the operatives carrying out the glass replacement activity,
who would act as a safety supervisor.
3. Locate the external access equipment adjacent to the glass to be replaced,
with the working deck of the cradle located approximately 200 mm below the
bottom transom of the glass to be replaced. Apply protection as necessary to
the external surface of the panels to avoid surface scratching.

4. Apply temporary debris containment in the form of heavy gauge polythene

sheet, attached with adhesive tape, around the window, particularly to close
off any gaps between the façade and the working deck of the access
equipment. Select an adhesive tape that will not leave residue on the façade
to which it is attached or damage paint finishes.

The purpose of this is to preclude so far as possible, small objects from falling
from the location where the glass is being replaced, to the ground.

5. If the glass is being replaced because the external H.S. pane has shattered,
then any remaining crystals of glass around the window should be carefully
collected. Operatives should wear suitable personal protective equipment
when carrying out this task. (Specifically gloves and goggles) to avoid the
risk of injury from broken glass.

6. The external glazing gasket should be visually inspected for damage. If it is

found to be defective in any way it should be replaced.

Glazing is a skilled task, which must be undertaken by operatives who are

familiar with this type of work. Failure to install glazing properly will result in the
façade leaking and warranties being compromised.
