Philosophy:

To provide the highest quality care to our patients, Delivered in a manner that will have a positive
influence on the lives of those we come in contact with. We will be gentle, understanding, friendly and
caring. We will treat our patients as we would our family.

Typical Tasks:

 Consult with patients about malocclusions with their teeth and plan appropriate orthodontic
treatment, such as braces, headgears, or retainers
 Perform corrective work such as straightening teeth
 Regularly tighten patient's braces and retainers during frequent check-ups
 Educate patients to help eat certain foods and clean their braces properly
 Cement braces onto patient's teeth and make moulds of their mouths
 Supervise orthodontic technicians and other staff

Qualities: Orthodontists must have good health, eyesight, and good finger and manual dexterity.
They must have a gentle, delicate touch and a good degree of mechanical aptitude and ability.
They require great interpersonal skills, and can communicate with all of their patients, trying to
make them feel more comfortable. They should especially like working with children, as
orthodontists are treating so many youngsters these days. Successful orthodontists enjoy doing
precise work with tools and equipment, and helping people treat diseases of the mouth.

First Step:

You have to get at least a 2-year undergrad program but most dental schools expect a full 4-year
bachelor’s degree. They must be based on Life Sciences, with one 2 semesters of biochemistry, 2
semesters of human or animal physiology and a 2 semesters of humanities or social sciences.

Then

you have to take the Dental Admissions Test (DAT). This lets you be able to apply to Dental school.
Once you pass the test you need to apply to an accredited Dental school for the 4-year program. Once
graduated with at least a mid-B in all subjects, you will have a Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of
Dental Medicine Degree.
