Title of Production: Castle On The Hill
Proposal

Rationale:
Over the units I have done, I definitely think that I have improved on all aspects
that are included for this course. At the start of the year I hadn’t done any
editing or producing of any type of films or animations. I started off really
uncomfortable and anxious when I was first introduced to sites like Adobe
Premium Pro and Adobe Audition, but over the last 7 units I got to understand
the basics of editing for example adding transitions like dissolve or cross fade to
make the short films or music videos run smoothly. I have also improved my
camerawork as I now understand the use of different angles and basic
background shots for b-roll is used to make the interviews more interesting and
gaging for the audience and it also helps to communicate emotion. For example:
a close up on the interviewee’s face zooms in on every detail of their facial
expression so we can see the pain in their eyes or the slight twitch of their
mouth that could suggest they’re talking about painful experiences. A stop
motion music video will put the skills, I have learned throughout this course, into
practice; for example: editing is needed to make sure that the movement of the
paper cut outs are synced in time with the lyrics of the song. A skill that I will
have developed and improved upon from this project will be my storytelling skills
and my organisation skills. My storytelling will have improved because I will need
to make the storyline of my song, clear for the viewers to understand without
them having to think to much about what is happening. My organisation skills will
have improved because I will need to make sure that I get all the planning done
before the production of my music video as well as getting the paper cut outs
just the right shapes and sizes for the video.

Project Concept:
For my Final Major Project, I want to produce an animated music video. I wanted
to choose a song with a simple but elegant story to it with a catchy chorus. The
song I have chosen to do is Castle On The Hill by Ed Sheeran. I will then use
paper cut-out characters and backgrounds to recreate and tell the story. I’m
using paper because that is the only technique that I haven’t already used for
my other animation productions that I did from my previous units. Another
reason I want to use paper instead of clay or Lego is because with this material,
it would be more pleasing and enjoyable for the viewers as its easy to
differentiate between characters, it doesn’t lose shape as easily as clay or
plasticine and because it’s 2D, it’s closer to the background and therefore more
intimate with its surroundings so the viewer can really get a better
understanding of where the characters are as its closer and easier to see. I have
really wanted to do an animated music video for a while because I think it will be
quite fun to make, even though animation takes ages to create, I think that if it
works it will look really good. Another upside to making an
animation is due to the uncertainty of the Coronavirus, if it gets
any worse and no one can leave their houses, then I’m not affected
because I don’t need actors and I don’t need to get any footage
outside, I can do it all at home in one room. I have some ideas for
the song that I want to use. For example: “Castle on the hill” – Ed
Sheeran. This is a good song for my video because it has a good story of growing
up and how people and places change over time. But this song also has some
slight adult lyrics, (not swearing but mature themes), which is suitable for my
target audience.

Evaluation:
For my evaluation I will fill out a weekly blog to show what I have achieved
and completed for my production. I will explain what I have done each
week in as much detail as I can and I will add screengrabs of work where
it’s necessary. I will try to be very self-critical and identify what I could
have done better and where I could improve my progress to gain the best
grade I can for each entry. I will seek feedback from my teachers, peers
and target audience and I will evaluate my work against professional
products.

Target Audience:
My target audience that I am aiming to make this production for is
between the age range of about 14 – 20-year olds. My production is aimed
at this age group because of both the childlike material I plan to use and
the mature topic of song about heartbreak and pain, that my survey
respondents have voted for. I will make this production so that both male
and female viewers can enjoy it and almost relate to it on a certain level.
To do this I will have both a male and female characters.
