Video Reflection: Observation of Learning Experience Plan

Teaching a learning experience is one thing. Seeing yourself teach a learning experience is another.
Watch the video recording of your learning experience plan. Reflect on your teaching practices as an
objective observer. Include observations in every section, including comments in both the strengths and
areas for improvement.

I have my materials prepared before I started the I think I could change up the last transition
recording. I think I effectively worked through both because I do not think that was effective
transitions, but I do not think the kids really liked the with the kids. I also could have flipped to
ending transition. I demonstrated flexibility when I was the page in my printout before so that I
allowing the kids to talk and ask questions through out didn’t need to sit there flipping through on
the process. the video.

Did you…focus the children’s attention; inform the children of the purpose of the experience;
Activity Implementation

relate the learning experience to prior knowledge or future lessons; practice purposeful and
intentional implementation that is inclusive of all learners; make real-time adaptations to the
activity should children lose interest; etc.?
Strengths You Observe Areas for Improvement You Observe
I think I did focus the children’s attention well by I did not really explain the purpose of the
having the puppet there as a visual reminder. The kids activity to the children, so they did not
already knew that it was a penguin, and before I started really know why we were performing the
recording, they were having discussion amongst each activity. That’s is all I really noticed for
other. They were using their prior knowledge during this category.
this time as well as when I was asking them questions
about penguins in the beginning. The kids also seemed
like they were engaged and became more engaged as it
went on. After the video they also kept dancing and
singing.

Did you…foster positive, nurturing relationships that encourage individual engagement; provide

adequate time for children to respond; discuss content at a developmentally appropriate level for
each child; give proactive, clear and constructive feedback to each child; etc.?
Strengths You Observe Areas for Improvement You Observe
I did foster positive relationships by allowing the I think that I could have given the children
children to talk when they wanted to as well as ask some ideas at the end when they were
questions when they had them. At the end, I did provide struggling to think of their own penguin
time for kids to think about what dance they would like dance.
to do, and I gave them the option of coming back to
them so they could think more. We discussed penguins
before starting the activity to help refresh their
understanding of penguins. I also gave the children
good feedback when they showed me their dance.
Did you…use consistent, positive behavioral support strategies; manage disruptive behavior

constructively; arrange the environment for effective instruction; use time efficiently; etc.?

Strengths You Observe Areas for Improvement You Observe

I didn’t really have any disruptive behaviors during the The only real improvement that could have
activity. I did not have to use any behavioral strategies been done for this part would be to place
because of this. I do think the environment was set up the camera better so all of the kids could be
in an effective manner, so the kids were able to seen the entire time.
completely perform the activity with no struggles. Time
was also used efficiently.
Final Reflection…What surprised you the most watching yourself teach? Did the video of your
teaching practices reflect how you see yourself as an educator? Why or why not?

I believe that I did a very good job teaching the kids about this learning plan. Nothing went bad
and all of the kids sat nicely and listened when I was talking. I think the video did reflect how I
see myself as an educator because I have a relationship with the kids and it was accurately
represented in the video by the way they sat extremely nice and none of them tried t fight the
activity.
