I have had a lot of experience working with preschool children. Before I
started working in a daycare, I have been babysitting for families in my
community as well as close friends and family since I was in sixth grade. I was
also a nanny one summer before I started college. I have always loved and
enjoyed spending time with kids and helping them learn. Throughout the years
they have also taught me many things and techniques to help me when I am
around children. I value all the experiences I have with the children because I
know that one day it may all change in this day in age.
The Preschool Credential has really made me think of what kind of
teacher I want to be. It has made me think a lot about how I teach and what I
want to see in myself as an educator. It has made me realize that I needed to
change some things that I was doing to help better myself for the children. Some
of the changes I have made around the room was to encourage the children and
their families to bring in things that the children can show off to the classroom to
help get them more involved in their child’s education. I have also taken out
some of the old broken books and toys around the center inside and outside and
made notes of things that need to be replaced or fixed so the kids are able to use
them some more.
Some challenges that I have faced while completely and working through
the Preschool Credential were when I was completing the environmental
checklist. It was very eye opening for me to help emphasize what needs to be
done within my center and classroom to help create a better environment for the
children. One other time that was a challenge for me while completing this was
when the restrictions with the coronavirus started inside my daycare. It made me
cut back on my hours, and I was struggling with the components that was
needed to complete the credential. I was able to complete everything needed for
this credential even if it took a little longer than I thought.
I will use my strengths and passions in the future to help remind me that I
can be the teacher I want to be for the kids. I want to be able to provide every
child with the same effort, care, and support because it is what they all deserve. I
was lucky enough to be one of those kids who had the support, care, and effort
provided to me by my teachers and I want to be like some of my favorite
teachers. Teachers can make a long-lasting impact on children and I would feel
so privileged to be someone’s favorite one day.
