HOMEWORK: Mechanical Specification

1. Get a hold of a typical Mechanical System Specification:

Below is a mechanical layout of a FIT-OUT project of an existing warehouse for a

Semiconductor Company. Project includes installation of Air Handling Units, Air-
Cooled Condensing Units (VRF-VRV) ,Axial fans and smoke extraction system.
The facility will be fully air conditioned to maintain required temperature and
humidity level. Requirement of smoke extraction system is due to the insurance
provider requirement.

3. The specification clauses
1. Hangers and support
-Provide hangers of heavy construction suitable for the size of pipe to be
supported. All Materials to be of steel, except rollers which are to be
wrought or malleable iron. Hangers for pipes up to and including 5 inches
 (125mm) to be adjustable swivel rings, split ring wrought pipe clamp, or
adjustable wrought clevis types. Hangers for pipes 6 inches (150mm) and
above to have 2 rods and cross rods with cast iron. Pipe roll complete with
adjustable sockets and nuts.
2. Refrigerant piping-pipe material
-Shall be type “L” copper tubing, hard drawn with wrought copper solder
type fittings suitable for connection with silver soldier
3. Refrigerant piping- Insulation Material
-Shall be 25 mm thick “ARMAFLEX” or approved equal. Provide additional
aluminum cladding where the pipes are exposed. All refrigerant suction
piping shall be included.
4. Sheet metal-Quality Assurance
-Construct ductwork according to the pressure-velocity classifications
established by SMACNA, and as called for on the duct drawing
5. Duct Sealant
-Sealant to be gray in color
6. Axial Fans
-Performance ratings conform to AMCA 210 and bear the AMCA Certified
Rating Scale
7. Axial fans casing
-Continuously weld, with inlet and outlet flange connections, and motor or
shaft supports, incorporate flow straightening guide vanes for fans
specified for static pressures greater than 375 pa (1.5 in wg)
8. Air-cooled condensing unit(VRV/VRF type)
-Coil guard: Expanded Metal louvered, PVC coat steel wire, with lint
screen
9. Air-cooled condensing unit(VRV/VRF type)- Controls
-For multiple units, provide remote mounted sequence panel to allow
operation with lead-lag switching and time delay timer
10. Air Handling Unit(VRV/VRF type)-Motors
-Motors shall be high efficiency, TEFC, NEMA design B. Motor shall be
mounted on a horizontal flat surface shall not be supported by the fan or
its structural members. All motors shall have a +-10% utilization range and
a 1.15 minimum service factor
