From the Desks of: Mrs. Manzanares and Mrs, Smith - 7" Grade Math Greetings: To keep up on your math skills while we are out of the classrooms, we would like you to work on the following chapters. Chapter 10 - Angles Chapter 11 - Plane Geometry Chapter 12 - Circles We would like you to work in order and do a minimum of 10 problems a day. You may work right in the book. If you have questions please email us Mrs. Manzanares - Imanzanares@lyoncsd.org Mrs, Smith - nsmith@lyoncsd.org Be safe, we miss you! Chapter 10 Angles Chapter 10 Angles coon This chapter covers the following CC Grade 7 standards: ‘Content Standards Geometry 7.65 10.1 Angles (DOK 1) Angles ae made up of two rays with common endpoint, called the ‘este Rays are named starting withthe endpoint and then athe point fon he ray. Roy BA and ay BC share a common endpoint. Angle are Usually named by thes capital ltr. The mide Teter names the erro Theanpleto hele ean be named 2 ABC or CB, Sometimes range can be named by lower case leer between the sides, 2, oF ty the vertex alone, 2B. [A protractor, shown below, is used to measure angles. The protractor is divided evenly into 2 hal circle of 180 degrees (180°). When the middle ofthe bottom of the protractor is placed on the vertex, and one of the rays of the angle is lined up with 0°, the other ray ofthe angle crosses the protractor atthe measure ofthe angle. The angle below has the ray pointing lft lined up with (0° (the outside numbers) and the other ray of the angle crosses the protractor at 55°. The angle measures 55°, Page 154 Copyright © American Book Company Chapter 10 Angles 10.2 Types of Angles (DOK 1) right angle <—_ acute angle right angle obtuse angle straight angle less than 90° 90° greater than 90° 180° and less then 180° Using the protractor above, find the measure of the following angles. A parallelogram is a quadrilateral in which both pairs of opposite sides are parallel. The following properties of parallelograms are given without proof: 1. Both pairs of opposite sides are parallel. 2. The opposite sides are congruent. 3. The opposite angles are congruent. 4. Consecutive angles are supplementary. A rectangle is a parallelogram with four right angles. It follows that a rectangle has all of the properties listed above, plus all four angles are 90°. A rhombus is « parallelogram with four ‘congruent sides. A rhombus has all the properties ofa parallelogram, but both pairs of opposite sides are congruent as well as parallel. A square i a rhombus with four right angles. Therefore, a ‘square has four congruent sides and four congruent angles (each 90°). AS vou can see, a square is also a quadrilateral, a parallelogram, a rectangle, and a rhombus. [A trapezoid is a quadsilateral with only one pair of parallel sides. The parallel sides are called bases, andthe other two sides are called legs. The legs do not have tobe the same length. eg ee (erly at] T o| c sire “open Page 165, Copyright © American Book Company (Chapter 11 Plane Geometry 11.4 Types of Polygons (DOK 1) Polygon means many’sided, A regular polygon has sides that are all equal in measure and angles that are congruent.
