GENERAL OPERATING PRINCIPLES
The graphic display with its different symbols and supplementary signals visualizes the control unit and
facilitates operating it. The following basic rules worth remembering apply to every screen of the control
unit:
• There are symbols, softkeys with symbols and displays adjustable from the selector shown on the
screen.
• The symbol above a display illustrates the function of the display that can be adjusted from the selector.
• The symbol in a softkey illustrates the function activated from the softkey in question.
• The partial shade close by a display or softkey is used as an indicator on the screen. The shading will
also be called a cursor in this manual.
• You can move on the screen by turning the selector, thus making the cursor move from one display to
another either clockwise or counterclockwise, depending on the turning direction.
• A display adjustable from the selector or a softkey is selected by pressing the button, ie by pressing
E (Enter) button when the display/softkey in question is partly shaded.
• When selected, the display adjustable from the selector is surrounded by a bold shaded outline. Then
the value on the selected display can be modified by turning the selector.
• Swaging diameter, correction and retraction diameter can be shown either in millimetres or inches on the
screen.
• The swaging parameters are treated as one data group in the control unit memory. The data group is
called a fitting type, because the parameters of one data group generally can be used for swaging
fittings of one size only.
• A data group, ie fitting type can be stored in the memory of the control unit and a name can be given to it
on the store screen.
• The stored fitting type can be recalled, ie retrieved from the control unit memory on the recall screen.
• A swaging delay can be set to keep the dies of the swager closed for a particular time after reaching the
swaging diameter.

NORMAL STATE
Main screen
It is the main screen that always opens when the power is turned on.

• Swaging diameter. The minimum adjustment equals to the minimum swaging diameter of
the smallest die set programmed. The maximum adjustment equals to the maximum
swaging diameter of the largest die set programmed. When the swaging diameter has been
changed and the new diameter is not accommodated in the recommended swaging range of
the die set in use, the control unit recommends another die set in the die set chart.
• Die set. Using this display you can scan the die set chart defined through calibration. If you
try to swage even though the die set used is not suitable for reaching the swaging diameter,
- - will be shown on the display. When the die set to be used is accepted by pressing
Enter, the retraction display is updated to a retraction corresponding the die size. NOTE!
See that the same type of die set is in use as shown on the display.
• Correction. Minimum - 1.00 mm. Maximum + 1.00 mm, by steps of 0.01 mm.
• Retraction diameter. The minimum adjustment equals to the swaging diameter + 3 mm.
The maximum adjustment equals to the minimum diameter of the selected die set + the
maximum retraction defined in the machine data, typical of each machine type.
• Swage counter. The counter counts from the set value onwards every time the swaging
diameter has been reached. Counter range is 0 - 9999. Counting from 0 up to 9999.

Recall screen

• In case there are fitting types stored in the memory of the control unit, they are ready to be
scanned and recalled when you enter this screen. You can select a fitting type by turning the
selector and placing the cursor outline on the desired type. Recall the fitting type by pressing
E button.
• If you don't want to recall a fitting type, place the shaded outline in the blank line at the top of
the first recall screen and press E.

Return to main screen.
Recall of fitting type. By pressing this softkey you can scan and
recall fitting types in the same way as when entering the recall
screen.
Transfer to Restore fitting types' backup copy, see next page. (Used
if the storage protection battery does not work. Call a serviceman to
change the battery).

Restore the fitting types´ backup copy
This screen is entered by pressing on the recall screen.

Restore of the backup copy of the fitting types that have been stored on the store screen
and backed up in the Flash memory.
SOFTKEYS
Restore the fitting types´backup copy from the Flash memory. Press
the softkey ”Restore of backup copy”. The fitting types backed up
appear on the screen. Now you can scan the fitting types and select
one of them to appear on the main screen, ie to be activated, by
pressing E .
The shaded outline round the restore softkey starts blinking. If you
really want to restore the backup copy from the memory, repress the
Enter button.
Restoring is cancelled if you exit from the screen before the second
press on Enter
NOTE! If you restore a backup copy, it automatically replaces the
fitting types that were being used!

Store screen

• If such a fitting type is in use that has been stored in the memory of the control unit earlier,
the control unit suggests the stored name for the fitting type.
• It is possible to rename a fitting type. Max length of the name is 15 characters.
In this context the characters can be both numeral and alphabetic.
• The following characters can be used: (-), ( ), (0), (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8), (9), (A),
(B), (C), (D), (E), (F), (G), (H), (I), (J), (K), (L), (M), (N), (O), (P), (Q), (R), (S), (T), (U), (V),
(W), (X), (Y), (Z).
• There are 15 small displays on the screen, in which any of the characters available can be
selected by turning the selector.
• 200 different fitting types can be stored in the memory of the control unit.
• The fitting types are normally in alphabetic order, numerals first, but they can be put in
another order by changing the number on the small display below the fitting type.
• On this screen you can modify only the name given to a fitting type and the fitting types´
order, the swaging parameters are modified on the main screen.

Mode screen
The mode screen is entered by pressing the mode softkey on the main screen.

• On the main screen the symbol in the mode softkey depends on the mode used.
• Although the mode screen is based on the main screen, the main screen data, e.g. the
swaging diameter, cannot be modified on the mode screen.
• You can return to the main screen from the mode screen by selecting one of the operating
modes.
• In automatic modes it is possible to use swaging delay and double swaging functions. They
are not included in the manual mode.
• Generally, manual mode is on when the machine is started, but after one of the modes has
been locked, the control stores it up.

Setups screen
The setups screen is entered by pressing on the main screen.

Although the setups screen is based on the main screen, the main screen data, e.g. the
swaging diameter, cannot be modified on the setups screen.

Tool change screen
This screen is entered by pressing on the mode screen.

• The symbol for retraction is blinking on the screen when you enter it.
• The control unit guides the operator during the whole tool change.
• If the operator turns off the power before tool change is completed or if there is a power
failure, the control unit continues the tool change after restart from the state preceding the
power failure.

Insert the pins of the quick change tool into the die set. Open the dies
to the retraction set through calibration.
Remove the quick change tool. Open the dies to the retraction.

Function locking.

The function is unlocked unless there is the symbol shown on the display or softkey
concerned.
Acknowledgement of password and modifications.
• Before locking functions, set the displays/softkeys to the desired state on the main screen.
• Select the display/softkey that you are going to lock and press Enter. The locking symbol shows that the
function is ready to be locked. By pressing Enter again you can cancel the locking.
• After selecting and activating all desired displays/softkeys, it is possible to alter the password, too. The
selected functions are locked when you press Ok and return to the main screen. Note! To be able to
open or alter the locked functions, you have to remember the set password.
• Notice that although you have locked die set and retraction displays, the control unit is still able to alter
the parameters automatically when the swaging diameter varies or if the fitting types are recalled from
the memory.
• If you lock the mode softkey, the die set display is being locked at the same time.

Alarm screen

• The alarm screen warns the operator of an error or fault possibly occurred in the control unit.
• All alarms of the control unit are described on this single screen.
• Each alarm can either be admitted or prevented in the maintenance mode. Only alarms
admitted in the maintenance mode can appear as alarms.
• The alarms have been separated into the following columns: Output, Flash, TCalib and Ram
alarms.
• An alarm is indicated by "Error" text on the right side of the error code on the alarm screen.
SOFTKEYS
Alarms are acknowledged with the Ok softkey. The possible fault that
caused the alarm does not disappear from the control unit.
Return to main screen. At the top of the main screen, in the middle, there
are three exclamation marks shown to remind you of the acknowledged
alarms.

1 = die closing.
2 = die retraction.

4 - 8 are available.
FLASH
1. Reading fitting types from flash. Fitting types cannot be restored from the flash memory.
2. Storing fitting types to flash. Fitting types were not stored in the flash memory.
TCALIB
1. Error in temperature calibration. The correct swaging diameter may not be reached. Check that the
sliding potentiometer is connected to the control unit.
