What’s Euthanasia?
Euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide refer to deliberate action taken with the intention of
ending a life, in order to relieve persistent suffering.

1-Euthanasia: A doctor is allowed by law to end a person's life by a painless means, as long as the
patient and their family agree.

2-Assisted suicide: A doctor assists a patient to commit suicide if they request it.

Voluntary and involuntary euthanasia

Euthanasia can also be classed as voluntary or involuntary.

Voluntary: When euthanasia is conducted with consent. Voluntary euthanasia is currently

legal in Belgium, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Switzerland, and the states of Oregon and
Washington in the U.S.
Non-voluntary: When euthanasia is conducted on a person who is unable to consent due
to their current health condition. In this scenario the decision is made by another
appropriate person, on behalf of the patient, based on their quality of life and suffering.

Involuntary: When euthanasia is performed on a person who would be able to provide

informed consent, but does not, either because they do not want to die, or because they
were not asked. This is called murder, as it's often against the patients will.

Advantages and disadvantages of euthanasia

Advantages
The end of the pain and suffering of the evicted, their relatives and social circles.
The patient is free to end his pain.
Cost and expense savings in hospital centers.
It is cruel and inhuman to deny someone dying when their pain exceeds their strength.
It is a way to help patients who only live connected to a machine
Disadvantages
There may be no acceptance by relatives and nearby circles.
Affection for that person implies that he is missed.
That one knows that death will not be natural.
Make a mistake and that person can live.

Euthanasia in El Salvador

Euthanasia in El Salvador is not allowed.

Why?
One of the main reasons is that there is no law to approve it.
CULPABLE HOMICIDE
Art. 132.- The wrongful death will be punished with imprisonment of two to four years
When the wrongful death is committed by driving a vehicle, it will be imposed also the
penalty of deprivation of the right to drive or obtain the respective license by a term of
two to four years when required.
If the wrongful death occurs as a result of the exercise of a profession or activity medical
or paramedical, the penalty of special disqualification for the exercise will also be imposed
of such profession or activity for a term of two to four years.
