Technicals details of pump sleeves:

Ceramics coated pump sleeves:

The sleeves of the erosive material handling pumps are subjected to tremendous erosion by the erosive
material dissolved in the media which insert in between gland packing & sleeve while running of the pump.
This leads to constant wear out from sleeve outer surface & some times causes a wear out of almost 3mm
on the radius of the pump sleeve. Worn out sleeve leads to gland leakage and as a result got rejected.

Process details of the solution:

Eutectic solution to the problem is “anti-wear thermal spary coating” of the pump sleeve. This is done by
using latest state-of-the-art thermal spray process. Special microflo ceramic based powder is used with the
help of CDS 8000 powder delivery system. Deposit exhibit excellent surface smoothness (after grinding)
and an ultra-high surface hardness upto 65 HRc. Coating thickness will be 500 micron max. This
application is advised to be done on new sleeves.

Advantages of the process:

 Low heat input. The total process is completed within a temperature range of 150 to 200 degree
centigrade only.
 Ultra high hardness achieve able from very low coating thickness of 500 micron only.
 Excellent surface finish leads to less wear.

Credentials:

 KOLAGHAT THERMAL POWER STATION:

Bottom ash slurry pumps sleeves were severely eroded because of the ash dissolved in water the life of
a new sleeve was not more than 6-7 months where ceramics coated pump sleeves is giving life of more
than one and half years.
