Is Reliability a long-term goal? Reliability Expo 2018 - A sneak peek

Reliability is a continuous journey of improvement and is never-ending.

You can never say that you have achieved the target, since change is the
only constant. So, if you do not continuously push your reliability effort
upwards, it will go down automatically. While trying to improve, you’re
also sustaining. So, sustainability is the main goal and improvement comes
as the second goal.

Can you tell us about your journey in Ashok Leyland?

I joined in 2011 and it has been very interesting. We had faced many chal-
lenges when I joined as we were focused on product quality. Customers
were happy when we fixed a problem and not charge for the same. Today,
it is not so. We are questioned for any failure, however rare it may be as
their awareness levels have increased. We are today more proactive than
reactive along with focusing on design, development, manufacturing and
the field quality along with sales and service.

Reducing bottlenecks results in increase
After the implementation, we applied for a patent in 2017. We then, anal-

per annum under the accrual savings with reduction in parts, sub-assembly
parts, manpower reduction, and warranty. Now, all the four plants pan
India are manufacturing the models with IMPROVED sensing technology.

What was the key takeaway?

Last year, I had worked with another team and bagged a Bronze, and the
learnings and experiences I gained were implemented this year. One of
them was not to take pressure to the head and heart. Be focused on work
and with a clear mindset and another factor is time management.
