Formative and Summative Assessment

Teachers often forget that the process of learning is the destination. Summative
assessment, summative evaluation, or assessment of learning refers to the assessment
of participants where the focus is on the outcome of a program. This contrasts with
.formative assessment, which summarizes the participants' development at a time

Formative assessment refers to a wide variety of methods that teachers use to

conduct in-process evaluations of student comprehension, learning needs, and
.academic progress during a lesson, unit, or course
Formative assessment allows us to see what students know and don’t know without
.the assessment being graded
We use assessment for learning on-going which means during the class or in the
.middle of the class
Summative assessments are used to evaluate student learning, skill acquisition,
and academic achievement at the conclusion of a defined instructional period—
.typically at the end of a project, unit, course, semester, program, or school year
.We use assessment of learning end of course which means in the end of the class
