Presenter: Hello viewers, today we are going to talk about the architecture of the

Cartagena city and especially about the magic of the balconies in the Corralito de
Piedra
Image
Since its foundation in the 16th century and during the time of the Spanish colony,
Cartagena de India’s was considered one of the most important ports in the
Americas.
Image
Currently, the city has become the most important tourist investment area in the
country, without ignoring the historical and architectural value that precedes it.
Image
The city has managed to protect its artistic and cultural heritage from the
restructuring that threatens its historic center, holding the metaphor of the walled
city as a sign of what must be protected and preserved.

Cartagena de India’s is characterized by its architecture, appreciated in its civil,
military and religious buildings. Some of the most beautiful buildings in the stone
corralito are the balconies.
Images
The balconies were built in colonial times when the Spanish brought the Catholic
religion and they have a rather remarkable feature, such as the fact that several of
their roof tiles point upwards, like the images below.
Images
The Cartagena people say that they were built in this way to indicate that God is in
heaven, and that these houses are protected by him.

Most balconies in the historic center are built of wood and are characterized by the
presence and variety of flowers, which make them, in view of those who appreciate
them, the most beautiful in the entire world.
