NAEB NEWS LETTER

ON TO EAST LANSING!

The annual convention of the National Association of Educational Broadcasters


WILL BE meeting ON THE CAMPUS OF MICHIGAN STATE COLLEGE, EaST LaNSING, MICHI¬
GAN, ON Monday and Tuesday, September 30 and October Io
Hotel headquarters will be Hotel Olds, LansinQo A reservation card is enclosed
with this letter, so make your reservations EARLYo
The Monday evening meal and meeting will be held at Hotel OldSo All other
meetings and eatings will be on the campus, or just off the campuSo Local
arrangements are being made by the chairman of the local arrangements com*
mittee, Director R* Jo Coleman. On-campus meetings will be held in the
Sun Parlor of the Michigan State Union Building.
You reach East Lansing by rail or bus best via Chicago or Detroit. You
rfach East Lansing by car, picking your own route. For your convenience
we'll enclose some road maps with this issue.
The program will be strictly informal, but businesslike and on business of
NAEB. There'll be no formal program planned, except at the opening the
usual formalities of welcome ano kick-off. And, I warn YOU IF the outgoing
president has time to prepare a speech you'll likely be bored with one, I
I NSI ST.
Topics which will be listed on the convention agenda include:
Establishing a service in Washington for educational stations*

Increasing membership of NAEB.


Originizing NAEB INTO regions by discussion of a constitutional amend¬
ment AND PROVIDING FOR MAIL VOTE ON THE PROPOSAL.
Establishment of a NAEB Program Service and the NAEB Legal Service.

The Development of FM by educational jnstitutions*


The granting of facilities in the noncommercial FM bands by the FCC
TO religious institutions which, strictly speaking, are not EDUCATlONAu.

The publication of an NAEB brochure.


The FCC ruling on identification of records and transcrptions*

Other which may be brought up by memberSc

Annual reports of president, executive secretary, and treasurer.

The School Broadcast Conference, the tenth annual, will be held October 21,
22, AND 23, George «^ennings, Director of the Conference, predicts attendance
WILL TOP ALL PREVIOUS RECORDS- LAST YEAR, MORE THAN 300 DELEGATES FROM ALL
PARTS OF THE COUNTRY ATTENDED- The CONFERENCE WILL TREAT WITH THE VARIOUS
USES OF RADIO IN EDUCATION- One SESSION WILL BE DEVOTED EXCLUSIVELY TO
PROBLEMS OF THE VETERAN AND RADIO, A NEW EQUIPMENT EXHIBIT, INCLUDING
TELEVISION, FACSIMILE, AND RECOROlO, WILL BE ONE OF THE FEATURES, TOO- HOTEL
RESERVATIONS SHOULD BE MADE EARLY-

KUSC, University of Southern California, was granted modification of its


CONSTRUCTION PERMIT FOR A NEW NONCOMMERCIAL, EDUCATIONAL BROADCAST STATION.
Action was taken on AuqustI,

WBOE, Cleveland City Board of Education, was granted construction permit to


SPECIFY FREQUENCY AS 90J MC (CHANNEL 2ll), AND TO MAKE OTHER CHANGES. ACTION
^.»-S0 TAKEN ON THE FIRST DAY OF LAST MONTH.

Release or the FCC, dated August 8, announced renewal of licenses for WBEZ,
Chicago,; WBOE, Cleveland; WlUC, Urbana, and WNYE, Brooklyn.

The Comm ssion accepted for filing, on August Ie, the application of the
Board of Education of Newark for extension of completion date on its CP.

St, Louis University’s application for a CP for a new experimental television


station was accepted for filing on August 15,

The FCC accepted for filing the application of the Bible Institute of Lo3
Angeles, Inc,, for a CP for a new noncommercial educational broadcast station.

The Commission also accepted for filing the application of WNYC, Municipal
Broadcasting System, New York, for extension of the Special Service Author¬
ization TO operate additional hours between 6 A.Mo AND 10 P.M,, EST.

NAEB News Letters, has served as executive secretary for a number of years,
AND THE past YEAR AS NAEB PRESIDENT, TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE HELPED MAKE
THE work PLEASANT, THANKS, lT*8 BEEN MOST ENJOYABLE. To THE NEW OFFICERS,
MY BEST WISHES AND PLEDGE OF CONTINUED ASSISTANCE, FOR I BELIEVE IN EDUCATION¬
AL BROADCASTING, AND IN NAEB.
