COCHIN METRO RFID SYSTEM

The Cochin Metro System will be built around top-of-the-class modern trains, fully air-conditioned and
customised to meet Cochin specific requirements. Each train will be approximately 75m long, consisting of 5
cars, with numerous double doors allowing fast and smooth flows of passengers in station.

The trains will offer a standard class, affordable to all, a women and children only section as well as an
exclusive 1st Class section. All sections will have a high proportion of seats, and be equipped with a state-of-
the-art Passenger Information System.
Trains will be driverless, fully automated, offering an extremely safe and reliable service with trains which
could run as often as one every minute and a half, with extensive window panels providing stunning views
from the elevated sections over the cityscape.

Tickets & cards

nol = “fare” or “cost of transport” in Cochin

The Nol Card is an electronic ticketing card .The word Nol is an Arabic word for fare.

A Nol Card is a credit-card-sized stored-value contactless smartcard that can hold prepaid funds to pay for
fares on buses and trains within one or more of four "zones". The credit must be added to the card before
travel. Passengers "tag on" and "tag off" their card on electronic gates at the metro station or electronic
terminals in buses when entering and leaving the transport system in order to validate it or deduct funds.
Initially the Cards can be purchased only from Metro Stations and Bus Terminus only. These prepaid Cards
can "topped-up" online, at ticket machines or at ticketing offices by credit, debit card or cash. The card is
designed to reduce the number of transactions at ticket offices and the number of paper tickets. Usage is
encouraged by offering cheaper fares than the paper ticketed option, although there is a fee to purchase the
card. Unlimited one day trip and monthly passes for the metro is only available with the Nol Red Ticket. The
Blue Nol Card offers concessions for students, national senior citizen and the disabled.

Red ticket

 Paper ticket which can be purchased for AED 2 and valid for 90 days.
 Rechargeable for use up to a maximum of 10 journeys.
 Purchasable from any ticket office machine and some ticket vending machines.
 Ticket can only be used for one mode of transport at a time (e.g. on Cochin Metro only or on Cochin Bus only)
 Ideal for occasional or casual users of public transport.
 No e-purse account available and has to be pre-paid with the correct journey type (based on the zones to be travelled)

Blue card

 Holds up to AED 500 worth of credit and valid for 5 years.

 Personalized card with the user’s photo.
 Has an e-purse , which deducts the correct fare automatically.
 Card requires subscription (50 AED) and will be received in the mail (10 days).
 Secure online services for re-charging the card, transaction history and registering complaints.
 SMS and email notifications related to confirmation of services and/or required instructions.
 More features such us loyalty points program, auto recharge facility and discounts for children, students, seniors and
people with disabilities.
 Silver card

 Holds up to AED 500 worth of credit and valid for 5 years.

 Has an e-purse , which deducts the correct fare automatically.
 Purchasable from any ticket office and selected ticked vending machines for AED 20 (includes AED 14 worth of
credit).
 Can be used immediately and recharged at any ticket office.

Gold card

 Holds up to AED 500 worth of credit and valid for 5 years.

 Has an e-purse , which deducts the correct fare automatically.
 Purchasable from any ticket office and selected ticked vending machines for AED 20 (includes AED 14 worth of
credit).
 Can be used immediately and recharged at any ticket office.
 Allows the privilege of using Gold Class cabins in the Dubai Metro.
 When used on other modes of transport with no Gold Class Cabins, the user will be charged the standard fare.
