Energetic Drinks should be burnt and made illegal

Energy drink use has been rising in recent days, considering the availability factor in the

market place (Demaria, Federico, para 1). To be precise, energy drinks refer to drinks containing

high concertation of compounds such as caffeine that is aimed to provide physical and mental

stimulation, not the same as that from the natural food. Also, they contain sugar as well as herbal

extracts and sugar, which enhances its taste as well as scent. Studies indicate that excessive

consumption of these several lead effects, including adverse health issues as well as social issues.

This paper entails reasons while energetic drinks should be burnt and made illegal due to the

adverse impact it causes as well as significant public health challenges.

Research on Energy Drinks

Research indicates that the majority of consumers of these products are adolescents,

especially those at the college level (Brinkmann, Robert, para 2). According to statistics, 50%

and above of this population consume energy drinks regularly, thus the target market for these

products. Contrary to soft drinks, they are a subset of bars as well as gels, which are mostly used

by sportsmen to enhance their performance. Various varieties and brands include Red Bull, Rock

star as well as Monster drinks. Scientific studies indicate that there are effects as a result of

consuming these products, effects include health effects. The European Food Safety Authority

indicates that consumption of caffeine over 400g will raise health concerns among the young

population. Averagely 250ml can contain 160g, which is equivalent to two cups of coffee; this

implies that the consumption of more than two cans of energy drinks will have adverse to an

individual, especially the young. Another effect includes that when mixed with alcohol, it may

raise the alcohol-related injuries.

Effects of Energetic Drinks should be burnt and made illegal.

Various reasons, including health effects, are reasons why Energetic Drinks should be

burnt and made illegal. The health of individuals is paramount as it determines whether a person

lives or not. Various studies on this energy drink indicate that they include caffeine, which, when

consumed in large quantities, may have adverse health effects (Lundin, Dan, para 3). Different

energy drink companies have different levels of caffeine in their products, for instance, 5-hour

Energy drink tops in the caffeine content available in the drink by 200mg in a 57ml can, Full

Throttle is the second with 160mg in 473ml can. Other companies such as Red Bull their

caffeine content stand at 80mg in a 250ml can. The content mentioned above is a clear indication

that one should not consume more than one can at a time. With the added flavors as well as sugar

makes people desire to increase with every bit of consumption; additionally, the caffeine present

enhances addiction; thus, people may end up consuming regular without control.

Energetic Drinks should be burnt and made illegal since they lead to Risk-seeking

behavior and mental health effect. Research indicates that energy drink consumption and

substance abuse are closely related (Smith, Kerry, para 4). For instance, the study in the United

States noted that high school students who are the majority consumers of energy drinks were also

using marijuana as well as cigarettes and alcohol hence a close relationship established. Further,

the result also indicates that the individuals associated with energy drink experience mental

health issues, including stress, depression, anxiety, as well as suicidal attempts. In Canada,

studies indicate that teenagers consuming energy drinks are 66% likely to report a mental health

issue, including depression and stress. Mental problems are more probable in teenagers as well as

adults with the frequency of consuming energy drinks; hence they experience depression anxiety

as well as stress. Health experts advise on sleep as the remedy of this mental issue's contrary to

which excessive consumption of this energy drinks causes dysregulated sleep which in turn

result to poor psychological functioning of this individuals; furthermore, this population does not

abide by considering they are the most productive population in the society. Further, they think

sleep as a waste of time; hence the only solution will be if the regulatory institutions ban the

product as well as make them illegal.

Additionally, energy drinks cause Adverse Cardiovascular Effects. Adverse

Cardiovascular Effects are primarily caused by caffeine and sugar. Research indicates that when

an individual consumes more than 355ml of energy drinks, upsurges systolic and diastolic blood

pressure as well as cardiac output and heart rate. Although there are gaps in the result of the

study conducted in 2016 about the systolic and diastolic blood pressure further indicates that

severe ingesting of energy drinks will result in this disorder(Smith, Kerry, para 6). Statistics

suggest that adolescents are the most affected as a 100mg caffeine toxicity per day will result in

severe cardiovascular effects compared to adults who will experience these effects when the

caffeine toxicity reaches 400mg per day. A further result from Australia Poison centers registers

that most of the cases reported about accidental as well as recreational consumption of energy

drinks by the young kid as well as adolescents hence palpitations as well as agitation and tremor.

Because the statistics rely on self-reported signs and symptoms, and most individuals are not

willing to identify themselves with energy drink consumption as a poison. Research indicates

that caffeine from energy drinks is more dangerous than other sources such as coffee drinks.

Further, people are more likely to drink more energy drinks compared to other sources of coffee.

Consumption of energy drinks also results in adverse metabolic as well as dental and

renal effects. It is for the fact that most beverages are sweetened with additives such as sugar.

Consequently, sugar has several long-term effects, which are common among children and

adolescents. The results include dental caries as well as obesity risk(Demaria, Federico, para 7).

Obesity one, on the other hand, is related to the risk of metabolic conditions as well as type 2

diabetes due to the low satiety of SSBs. Furthermore, the consumers are expected to release the

energy into taken into account as they make the energy drinks contrary to which they don't thus

may further expose them to type 2 diabetes. Generally, the acute consumption of SBBs upsurges

blood glucose as well as insulin levels hence contributing to high glycemic load, which in turn

affects the level of glucose intolerance as well as insulin resistance. Additionally, the sugar

present in the energy drinks results in high pervasiveness to dental issues. Considering that the

bacteria in the mouth exploit the sugar from SSBs hence producing acids that decay the tooth.

Renal disease, on the other hand, entails the damage of microvascular and accelerated

progression of chronic kidney disease; this is a result of the induction of fructose in SSBs in

animals-based models; this calls for the ban of the use of energy drink consumption.

Mixing energy drinks with alcohol will further lead to adverse health risks(Smith, Kerry,

para 7). Many adolescents find it fun mixing alcohol with energy drinks to enhance taste; this has

an adverse health effect; for instance, the stimulating effect of caffeine present in the energy

drinks. This can further lead to overriding of the depressive effects of alcohol; further individuals

are probable to heart palpitations. Initially, energy drinks companies used to add alcoholic

concentrations to the ED, but due to these effects, they were banned from adding alcohol

contents to this drink. Besides, mixing depression effects missing of alcohol lead to individuals

feeling less intoxicated while they still experience alcohol-related impairment. Lastly, acute

consumption of these drinks as reported to cause several other health issues, including health

dissatisfaction as well as fatigue; this results in people not working usually during their daily

activities.

Limitations of public health

In recent years there has been increasing energy drink marketing, which has increased its

usage among the general population; for instance, the global market recorded a 240% increase in

energy drink sales (Smith, Kerry, para 8). Also, this increase in sales has contributed to

significant growth in the economies of some countries. For instance, use has recorded a revenue

of more than $21 billion in 2017 alone, this is a result of the vulnerability of the adolescents by

marketers of this energy drinks. Also, lack of regulations and taxation policies in various

countries has lead provisioning of energy drinks at a lower price as well as a lack of standards in

the contents added to energy drinks. Alcohol mixing has also been a significant concern since

most adults find it enjoyable when they mix alcohol with energy drinks. They further lead to

high consumption of alcohol, which consequently affects their health.

In conclusion, although energy drinks have some befits to an individual, including

increasing brain function as well as help you function when you are tired, Energetic Drinks

should be burnt and made illegal. These drinks have adverse health effects, including adverse

metabolic, dental and renal outcomes, cardiovascular effects as well as mental health effects.

According to research can most of this effect does not have a specific medication, furthermore

the most affected population is adolescents who are the upcoming productive members of the

society. The government should consider imposing a ban on energetic drinks as well as making it

illegal to prevent these implications.
