Classwork Activities
1. Warm Up
2. We will break into groups and do rotating stations all having to do with kindness
- Station 1: Assessment station lead by me where they will fill out a worksheet that has four main idea questions. The questions
ask what an act of kindness is, the give an example, how doing an act of kindness makes someone else feel and how it makes
them feel. I will be there to facilitate a small group discussion, provide guiding questions, and monitor the students’ thought
processes
- Station 2: Students will sort 16 scenario cards into two different groups based on whether or not the card is an act of kindness.
This can hopefully help them think more critically about what it really means to do an act of kindness opposed to doing what
you’re expected to do (do your homework, eat healthy, etc). Plus, I’m hoping the visualization of grouping plus the kinesthetic
component will be beneficial to their learning and sorting skills.
- Station 3: The last station will be a thank you note station. Each student will write a thank you note to someone in the school
which we will then deliver later this week. I want them to practice a concrete, structured act of kindness so we can put this
lesson into action + reflect on the experience of delivering the note later on.
3. I will close this lesson by collecting all of the work to keep it safe and assess where the students are at with the information. Then, I
will remind them that, although this is my last official lesson on kindness, that doesn’t mean to stop being kind. Review the Challenge
Goals, the WOW hand-outs, and that they can be kind anytime, anywhere, to anyone. It makes people around us happy, makes people
want to be our friends, and makes us feel good inside too!
