Rice Krispies

Do you remember what happened after Peter finished shooting in

the school’s cafeteria? He sat down and ate a bowl of Rice Krispies before
continuing his shooting-spree. Now, in the book it’s mentioned three times
that Peter ate not just some kind of cereal but specifically Rice Krispies. Is
it just a coincidence?
Rice Krispies is a breakfast cereal marketed and released to the
public by Kellogg's in 1928. Rice Krispies are made of crisped rice, and
expand forming very thin and hollowed out walls that are crunchy and
crisp. When milk is added to the cereal the walls tend to collapse, creating
the "Snap, crackle and pop" sounds. The "Snap, Crackle and Pop" slogan
was in use by 1939 when the cereal was advertised as staying "crackly
crisp in milk or cream...not mushy!" with claims that the cereal would
remain floating even after 2 hours in milk.
Rice Krispies contain rice, sugar, iron, vitamin C, E, B6, B2,  B1, and
vitamin D, however, the main reason for Rice Krispies fame is the whole
system of advertising these breakfast cereals.
Everything started with the words Snap! Crackle! Pop! That first
appeared in a print ad in 1929. In 1933, inspired by a Rice Krispies radio
commercial, artist Vernon Grant created the characters Snap, Crackle and
Pop, who were small, cute gnomes. Over the years the characters of the
gnomes developed and by 50’s every kid in USA knew who they were.

The characters Snap! Crackle! and Pop! seem innocent and cute,
however, when Rice Krispies appeared in other countries, they were given
different names. When you translate Snap! Crakcle! And PoP! in Spanish,
the slogan says Pim! Pam! Pum!, in Dutch- Pif! Paf! Pof!, in Swedish- Piff!
Paff! Puff!
What is interesting – ‘’In nineteen minutes’’ isn’t the only situation
in which both- rice Krispies and guns- have been involved.

In 2017, 9th of June police busted 29 year old man Timothy Glass Jr.
after he used a flare gun to fire a breakfast-stuffed bullet at an another
man’s hand and tried to flee on a bike. Police caught up with Glass, but he
put up a fight and hurt one of the officers in the process. His first victim
was rushed to hospital with non-life threatening wounds to his hand but
told cops he didn’t want to pursue charges. But Glass was apparently a
“cereal” offender so police still booked him for probation violation as well
as resisting arrest.
Now, can anybody of you guess what kind of cereal did he use to
stuff the bullets? – Rice Krispies

Many conspiracy theories can be made about Rice Krispies and it is

discussable whether or not Rice Krispies anyhow contributed to Peters’
actions, however , it is true that the food we consume greatly influences
our mood and in long-term might even effect our personality, for example,
vitamin D may help relieve mood disorders; adding protein to our meals
can help slow the absorption of carbohydrates in our blood and increase
the release of dopamine; and extra antioxidants in our meals can
significantly reduce our stress levels.

 How does the food you consume influence your mood?

 Have you ever dramatically changed your diet and, if so, did
you notice any changes in your emotional state?
 As I mentioned, the main reason for Rice Krakers’ popularity in
50s’ were the eye-catching advertisements - how much
influence does advertisements these days have on our diets?
