SETTING OUT
Objectives:
I. to understand the workflow in setting out
II. to understand the surveying process in the setting out
III. to carry out a simple setting out survey
IV. to evaluate the setting out work
DURATION : 6 weeks
LOCATION
Padang Hoki, Kolej Seroja. Three control points from previous exercise will be used.

EQUIPMENT
1. 1 Total station and Tripod.
2. 2 prisms and 2 tripods
3. 1 100 meter tape (steel band)
4. 4 arrows
5. A field book – to be used during in all practical.
Note: Students are required to plan and select appropriate equipment for observations. Avoid carrying unnecessary
equipment to the field.
METHODS
1. All setting out data for this exercise are computed during week 1 of this exercise.
2. Identify 3 control points (the control points are part of your traverse) from previous exercise (CP1, CP2 and
CP3).
3. Verify all points. (You may recall the procedures from cadastral survey).
4. Record all the necessary data in your field book.
5. Setup total station at CP1 and RO to CP2 (or CP3)
6. Set the reading (as computed) from CP1 to RO.
7. Turn the angle (or bearing) to SO1 (setting out point 1).
8. Observe the distance between CP1 to SO1.
9. Mark the point with arrows
10. Repeat the process to establish SO2, SO3 and SO4.
11. Move the total station to CP2 and RO to CP1 (or CP3)
12. Verify the bearings and distances as computed
13. Record all data in the field books
