1. Differentiate between Decision and Conflict.
2. Briefly describe the two phases of the process of decision making.
Decision:
In psychology, decision-making (also spelled decision making and decision-
making) is regarded as the cognitive process resulting in the selection of a
belief or a course of action among several alternative possibilities. Decision-
making is the process of identifying and choosing alternatives based on
the values, preferences and beliefs of the decision-maker. Every decision-
making process produces a final choice, which may or may not prompt
action.
A choice made between alternative courses of action in a situation of
uncertainty.
Decision-making can be regarded as a problem-solving activity yielding a solution
deemed to be optimal, or at least satisfactory Decision-making can be regarded as

satisfactory. It is therefore a process which can be more or
less rational or irrational and can be based on explicit or tacit knowledge and
beliefs. Tacit knowledge is often used to fill the gaps in complex decision making
processes. Usually both of these types of knowledge, tacit and explicit, are used
together in the decision-making process.
Human performance has been the subject of active research from several
perspectives:
Conflict:
A conflict is a clash of interest. The basis of conflict may vary but, it is
always a part of society. Basis of conflict may be
personal, racial, class, caste, political and international. Conflict in groups
often follows a specific course. Routine group interaction is first disrupted
by an initial conflict, often caused by differences of opinion, disagreements
between members, or scarcity of resources. At this point, the group is no
longer united, and may split into coalitions. This period of conflict
escalation in some cases gives way to a conflict resolution stage, after
which the group can eventually return to routine group interaction.
It can be described as a disagreement among groups or individuals
characterized by antagonism and hostility.
Conclusion
When it comes to making decisions, one should always weigh the positive and
negative business consequences and should favor the positive outcomes.
