Material Data Sheet
Data Sheet No. C24N Sheet 1 of 1
Material Type Carbon Steel, Type 450LT

Product Standard Grade Acceptable Class Suppl Requirements

Seamless Pipes API 5L X65 -
This MDS covers the selected options in the referenced standard and additional
Scope requirements which shall be added to or supersede the corresponding requirements in the
referred standard.
Manufacturing Process The steel shall be fully killed to fine grain practice.
Seamless pipe may be supplied in the six following heat-treated conditions:
1) Normalized, 2) Hot-rolled, 3) Annealed, 4) Normalized and tempered, 5) Normalized,
Heat Treatment austenitized, quenched and tempered, 6) Austenitized, quenched and tempered.
Seamless and welded pipe may alternatively be finished in the cold-drawn and normalized
condition.

Mn Cr Mo V Ni Cu
Chemical Composition CE C
6 5 15 < 0.43% (by product analysis).
Seamless pipe (and where used as base-metal for fittings) : Sulphur 0.010% (= 100 ppm)
Hardness The hardness shall be maximum 22 HRC.
Charpy V-Notch testing according to ASME B31.3 para 323.3 for a design minimum
Impact Testing temperature of minus 46 °C. The minimum absorbed en ergy shall be 40J average / 30J
single.
Charpy V-Notch impact testing and hardness testing shall be carried out for each lot as
Extent of Testing defined in the referred standard. For batch furnace charges the specified test shall be
carried out for each heat in each heat treatment charge.
Samples for production testing shall realistically reflect the properties in the actual
Test Sampling
component.
Non Destructive Section 9.8.5 of API 5L 43rd edition or Annex E.5 of API 5L / ISO 3183 shall apply.
Examination
The pipes shall be free from surface imperfections such as handling marks, straightening
Surface Finish marks, light mandrel and die marks, shallow pits and scale pattern.

Repair of Defects Weld repair is not acceptable.

Jointers are not allowed. The yield to tensile strength ratio (actual values) shall not exceed
Additional Requirements 0.9.
Simulated Post-Weld Heat treatment of Mechanical Test Coupons: Test specimens
representing the material shall be thermally treated to simulate two post-weld heat
Additional Requirements treatments using the heat treatment parameters (temperature range and double the holding
for pipes w/ wall time specified in ASME B31.3 paragraph 331). The test results for such heat treated test
thickness >19mm specimens shall meet the applicable product specification requirements and shall be
included on the material test report.
EN 10204 Type 3.1. Compliance with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 shall be stated in the
certificate.
Certification Heat treatment temperature, soaking time and cooling medium shall be stated in the
Certificate.
