Berkeley Language Center

Assistance During the Coronavirus Lockout

The BLC is providing the following services to instructors in Arts and Humanities holding DL
classes. Reservations may be made on the BLC website (http://blc.berkeley.edu – use the drop
down menu “for instructors” and then click on “room reservations”).

1. Help with Zoom.

a. For instructors needing access to a Zoom room facility (i.e., a room with
computer, Zoom camera and screen, and material whiteboards, laptop), please
reserve one of the four BLC rooms with this equipment: B7, B34, 29, 33. This is
not to hold class there, but to use the room to connect to your students virtually.
b. For instructors needing individual help with Zoom, a tech expert is available 9:00
– 3:30. Drop by the BLC (B-40 Dwinelle) or make an appointment with John
(johnww@berkeley.edu) or Mark (mkaiser@berkeley.edu).
c. For a video on how to get started with Zoom, we refer you to this step-by-step
guide created by Greg Niemeyer: https://vimeo.com/396077741 and for more
help with Zoom, here are additional links:

2. Help creating lecture content.

a. To record a lecture for posting to bCourses, please make a reservation for B-4
Dwinelle on the BLC website (please allow 24 hours advanced notice). We will
record your lecture with your screen projecting behind you. Recordings will not
be edited.
b. The BLC has just finished work on a DIY video editing station in B-27. This facility
allows you to make a video recording of yourself and/or your computer screen
and allows sophisticated, intuitive video editing of the end result (Camtasia). The
BLC can provide assistance to get you started (contact mkaiser@berkeley.edu).
3. If you need assistance with Lumière (films and film clips), please contact
mkaiser@berkeley.edu.

The CTL has links to various resources on remote examinations, DSP accommodations, and
ways to maximize the features in bCourses: https://teaching.berkeley.edu/instructional-
resilience-resources.

The BLC is here to help – please get in touch and let us know what your needs are and how we
can assist you to make this challenging time easier for you and your students.
