NOTES
• This garment is worked from the top down.
• To change colors, work last stitch of old color
to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color
and draw through all loops on hook to
complete stitch.
• Leave long tails of yarn each time you change
colors, to be used later for sewing the sides.

Foundation ch is a multiple of 6 plus 2.

end, eliminating last sc.
Row 2: Ch 3, 2 dc in 1st sc (counts as half-
shell), * sk 2 sts, sc in next st, sk 2 sts, shell
in next st; rep from * to end, working half-
shell in last sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in 1st dc, * sk 2 sts, shell in
next sc, sk 2 sts, sc tbl in next st (center dc of

Increasing in Shells Pattern

Using color A, ch 62, 62, 74, 74, 86, 86.
Work in Shells pat and color sequence until
piece measures 5¾, 5¾, 6½, 7¼, 8¼, 9"
(14.5, 14.5, 16.5, 18.5, 21, 23 cm), ending
with a row 3.
Shape Armhole
Increase at beg and end of next 2, 4, 4, 6, 6, 8
rows – 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 shells across.
Work 5, 5, 5, 7, 7, 7 rows evenly in Shells pat
beg with a row 4.
Next 6 rows: Work in pat, replacing 2nd, 3rd,
and 4th full shells at each edge with half-
shells.
Next 2 rows: Work in pat, replacing 2nd, and
3rd full shells at each edge with half-shells.
Next 2 rows: Work in pat, replacing 2nd full
shell at each edge with half-shell.
Continue evenly in Shells pat until piece
measures about 22½, 23¼, 24¼, 27, 27¾,
29½" (57, 59, 61.5, 68.5, 70.5, 75 cm) from
beg, ending with a color B section.
Bottom Edging
Change to color A.
Next 2 rows:
Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc tbl in each of the 1st 3
sts, * sc in next sc, sc tbl in each of the next 5
sts ; rep from * to last 4 sts, sc in next sc, sc
tbl in each of the last 3 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc tfl in each of the 1st 3 sts, * sc
in next sc, sc tfl in each of the next 5 sts ; rep
from * to last 4 sts, sc in next sc, sc tbl in each
of the last 3 sts.
Fasten off.

Waist Shaping (optional) FRONT

Next 2 rows: Work in pat, replacing 2nd full Holding back piece with RS facing and
shell at each edge with half-shell. foundation edge up, mark the 1st 13 foundation
Next 2 rows: Work in pat, replacing 2nd, and sts for Right Shoulder, and last 13 foundation
3rd full shells at each edge with half-shells. sts for Left Shoulder.
Left Front
With RS facing, attach yarn at 1st st of Left
Shoulder, and work in Shells pat and color
sequence for 3 rows across Left Shoulder sts
only – 2 shells across.

Neck Shaping
Inc at right edge of fabric only (neck edge) on
next 4, 4, 6, 6, 8, 8 rows – 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6
shells across.
Work 8 rows evenly in Shells pat beg with a
row 4, then inc at right edge of fabric (neck
edge) on next row.
AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 5¾,
5¾, 6½, 7¼, 8¼, 9" (14.5, 14.5, 16.5, 18.5,
21, 23 cm), beg shaping armhole edge same as
Back.
Fasten off.

Right Front
With RS facing, attach yarn at 1st st of Right
Shoulder, and work in Shells pat and color
sequence for 3 rows across Right Shoulder sts
only – 2 shells across.

Neck Shaping
Inc at left edge of fabric only (neck edge) on
next 4, 4, 6, 6, 8, 8 rows – 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6
shells across.
Work 8 rows evenly in Shells pat beg with a
row 4, then inc at left edge of fabric (neck
edge) on next row.
AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 5¾,
5¾, 6½, 7¼, 8¼, 9" (14.5, 14.5, 16.5, 18.5,
21, 23 cm), beg shaping armhole edge same as
Back.
Do not fasten off.
Join Fronts
Next 2 rows:
Row 1 (RS): Work in pat to last st of Right
Front, shell in last st, ch 1, shell in 1st st of
Left front, work in pat to end.
Row 2: Work in pat across, working center
shell in ch st at center neck.
Complete armhole shaping and work remainder
of piece same as for Back.
FINISHING
Sew side seams, using the long yarn tails to
sew up each color section.
Next 2 rnds:
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same st, 18, 18, 24, 24, 30,
30 sc evenly to shoulder, 33, 33, 37, 37, 41, 41
sc evenly down Left Neck edge, 1 sc in center
Front Neck st, 33, 33, 37, 37, 41, 41 sc evenly
up Right Neck edge, 18, 18, 24, 24, 30, 30 sc
evenly to center Back Neck, sl st in 1st sc to
connect, turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each of the 1st 2 sc, * picot,
sc in each of the next 4 sc, rep from * to last 2
sts, picot, sc in each of the last 2 sts, sl st to
1st sc to connect.
Fasten off.
Armhole Edging
With RS facing, attach color D to Left Armhole
at the side seam, and work as foll:
Next 2 rnds:
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 61, 69, 77, 93, 101, 117 sc
evenly around armhole, sl st in 1st sc to
connect, turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, sl st in 1st
sc to connect.
Fasten off.

Neck Edging Work right armhole the same.

With RS facing, attach color D at center st of
Back Neck, and work as foll: Weave in ends.
FLOWER EMBELLISHMENTS
Here are instructions for the flowers shown.
Feel free to use other crocheted flower patterns
of different shapes and sizes. You can make
several, then choose your favorites.

These flowers are made using color D.

Small Flower
Ch 4, sl st in 1st ch to join into a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 5 (counts as 1 dc and 2 ch), (dc, ch
2) in ring 5 times, sl st in 3rd of beg 3 ch to
connect.
Rnd 2: Sl st in next sp, ch 1, (sc, hdc, dc, hdc,
sc) in each sp around, sl st in 1st sc to connect.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Medium Flower
Ch 4, sl st in 1st ch to join into a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 5 (counts as 1 dc and 2 ch), (dc, ch
2) in ring 5 times, sl st in 3rd of beg 3 ch to
connect.
Rnd 2: Sl st in next sp, ch 1, 5 sc in each sp
